Dometic/Attwood water heater

Dometic GC6AA-10E water works great on electric side but won't ignite on the gas side.
Tried new gas valve. Still don't light,
Tried new Circuit board. Still don't light.
I can see the spark.
What am I missing?

Thanks.

Take a look at some of these videos from My RV Works. He's absolutely the best mobile RV tech I've found and is very methodical in his approach to diagnosing and repair. He shares his vast knowledge and ability with the world for free, and also has accumulated a library of manuals you can look for.

We all can throw out our ideas and thoughts in hopes of hitting on the cure, but Darren does a thorough step by step diagnosis and repair on video for the tough issues. I hope it helps. These are just for water heaters. He has many, many more for almost everything else.

Correct video posted below.

Mine was sparking too but it would not stay lit. Dealer tech diagnosed a bad igniter wire and replaced it. Now working great

I think for most Dometic water heaters, the igniter and its wire is also the flame sensor and if the flame sensor doesn't sense a flame it will not stay lit (or maybe not even light at all). ~CA

I believe once the board initiates the sparking the next thing to take place is the gas valve receives voltage and opens. Have you checked the voltage across the gas valve?

If the valve is getting voltage the next thing in the equation is propane. Does your stove produce a good flame?

yes sir. the stove works great and has a good flame.
the valve is getting voltage, so maybe its in the igniter wire or at least I hope so.
Thanks

My mistake on the video I posted. I'm not sure how it went to the wrong one, so here's the correct video. It may be a little long, but it explains a ton.

I think most gas valves are dual valves. Both have to function to get gas. You may have voltage to the valve but what if the coil inside the valve is open? Suggest checking resistance through the valve to a good ground. Just a thought.

Tried a new wire. That is not the culprit.

I have even put a new valve on and still nothing.
Could it be in the thermostat?

There's always the video. Guessing is not diagnosing. Guessing costs extra.

Did you install a new wire only or a new igniter and flame sensor? ~CA

I’m assuming the voltage should be 12 volt.
I’m only getting 8.75 to the valve

If I’m following the symptoms correctly, there’s spark but no ignition. I noted new gas valve and igniter, stove works. Is the LP flowing when the igniter sparks?

Gas is getting to the stove and it works great. It just seems it is not getting gas to the water heater valve. Assuming the gas side is 12 volt, I'm only getting 8.75 volts to the valve. Is this normal or could it possibly be in the switch on the panel? Just trying to think through it.

Thanks

Just out of curiosity, has it ever worked on gas? If not I would trace the gas line from the main and see if it has a kink in it.
