They are referring 5th wheels not the travel trailers. Our 330RSTS is with 2 full size AC's AND 16" rims and tires (Maxxis) is still WELL under the federal legal height limit of 13' 6" so we wouldn't qualify for the half height AC replacements either.

For those buying new campers with the low profile AC units already installed; Are both AC units the low profile type or just the front ones?

Thanks

Just took my 2018 eagle 317rlok to the dealer in Manteca ca and asked the service writer about this and he said they would not do anything they also denied warranty on the faded front cap and the poorly installed flooring, I bought a jayco because I thought they were better built and had a two year warranty very disappointed

I would contact Jayco customer service direct. Dealerships don’t want to hassle with contacting Jayco. But if Jayco approves then they’ll handle the repairs. Your issues have been corrected by Jayco based on other posts. We’re contacting Jayco this week about low profile AC. We’re at 13’8” hitched up on our 2019 317RLOK. I’ll keep everyone updated!! Wish us luck

4-23-19 Update: Hubby called Jayco CS today. He was instructed to take pics of 5th wheel hooked up to truck on level ground with us taking measurements. Oh JOY! I get to crawl up on top again! :-)
Email pics to them. Once they receive pics, we'll confirm with them and then they said to contact our dealership. We are to instruct dealership to contact Jayco CS Rep (Tony) for authorization to switch out to low profile AC unit. We'll then schedule time for repairs with dealership.
HOPEFULLY all will go smoothly! This is exactly what another guy on this forum posted that he was instructed to do as well.

Be sure to have your VIN# & model make/year with you when you call Jayco.
I would also be sure to discuss the faded cap area on your 5er also when you talk to them so you can all of it taken care of during 1 trip to dealership!

Have I said how much I LOVE this forum!!! People on here are SO helpful and knowledgeable. Had I not read someone's original post about being too high and over legal height limit, I would never have known what a "low profile AC unit" was! This will definitely make a difference for me regarding peace of mind going down the hwy! NOW if someone could come up with a "LOW LIMB" app :-)

That is exactly what they had me do. They will approve it if you are over the 13’6” height.

This kind of stuff boggles the mind. Mistakes happen, but sending out an over height trailer simple to avoid. Couldn't Jayco just put an electric eye at the factory exit to catch over height trailers? Or just a pole like a fast food drive through. It would cost next to nothing, they could use an old garage door sensor.

I ordered a 355MBQS with the 2nd AC unit. In the options it says that it is a low profile unit. I confirmed earlier today from my dealer.

Build date is May 21 or 22

This is a travel trailer not a fifth wheel. Sorry for the confusion. After I read a few posts I realized the numbers on units quoted were not what Jayco’s have for tt they only have 4 models for 2019

Thank you

I traded in my 2008 Jayco 313RKS.
And my third Jayco

The dealer talked me out of the 2nd AC unit the last time but not this time

The trailer isn’t overheight until it gets coupled to one of today’s ridiculously tall one ton SRW trucks.

Chevy ford and Dodge are equally to blame for the ever increasing “clearance” of these trucks. There is no need for a SRW pickup truck to have 18” rims. And then they crank the height up for aesthetics.

The DRW trucks aren’t much better, but they are lower.

Sometimes I miss the days of 15” rims. Nowadays I need to buy special running boards so the wifey can climb in the cab.

I don’t fully agree with the last post. My Eagle was at 13’8’’ unhooked from the vehicle with the trailer perfectly level. So it left the factory over the legal limit. Jayco will ask you to send pictures showing the height before they will approve swapping out for a low profile. I agree some trucks are higher but that is why you have pin box and hitch adjustments. If you start out over the limit, you have nothing to work with.

You don't realize they have to run 18" or larger wheels for the tire weight capacity. A late model 3500 SRW wouldn't have anything less than an 18" wheel to get the rated axle ratings. Old school trucks had much less weight capacity and could use 17 or 16 inch wheels. Dually has 4 tires to carry the weight so they can use smaller tires with less weight capacity. That's why semis have 22.5" wheels and not 15". The more capacity, the larger the wheels and tires and the higher the truck will be off the ground. They will keep going as loads and trailers are getting larger and larger.

I bought a 2018 355MBQS almost one year ago exactly. The unit came with a regular A/C as my 2nd A/C. Upon measuring the rig on the truck with a D.O.T. stick, I was at 13' 9". I also measured the rig level and off the truck at 13' 8.5". I contacted my dealer and they told me that it was my problem and not theirs.

I contacted Jayco CS and explained the issue. They asked me for the pics...and then next day they called me and told me they would replace the A/C with a low profile for no charge. I was leaving for Myrtle Beach, so they hired a local technician and it was swapped out on my site.

If anyone has issues, I suggest getting all your measurements and take pics of the measurements before contacting Jayco. Good luck!!!!

My tow vehicle is a 2016 Ram 3500 SRW. The truck did not make a difference in the height of the rig.

If these are leaving Indiana overheight, then why aren’t they getting the AC units clipped on their way to dealers?
