Just a reminder after reading most of the response , a huge plus is the exhaust brakes , after you once pull with a diesel and exhaust brake you will not go back to gas . Just something to know .

Excellent point. Our '21 Ram, long bed and air bags, with the Cummins engine is a monster. Can't say enough about the truck/engine combination

Gas engines have something similar. Not saying it nearly as good as exhaust brakes on a diesel but when in tow haul mode most newer trucks with gas engines will slow you down by downshifting. I even had a 2017 F150 that would almost keep me from using the brake when pulling my 4k lb boat on steep grades.

I used to drive diesels. I'm aware of what they cost to drive and maintain. For those reasons I don't see myself ever going back to a diesel.

I pull my 2021 321RSTS (with hydraulic brakes) with a 2022 F350 with the 7.3 gas, 4.30 gears, long bed, 48 gallon fuel tank. I also have 4300 lb payload. I couldn't be happier. I have been through mountains with 6 to 7% grades with no problems. On descents tow/haul does a great job. Is it an exhaust brake, no, but it works well, and I`ve had no problems.

Hope you find your perfect truck.

To each their own, but I would never have a short bed without a slider. I forgot to slide once and ended up replacing a rear window and having a dent taken out. Especially if you are new to 5th wheels. Just my opinion

If you're towing heavy, diesel.

2022 Ford 7.3 gas: 430hp @ 5500, 475lb-ft @ 4000

2022 Ford 6.7 diesel: 475hp @ 2600, 1050lb-ft @ 1600

For 2023, there's a high-output 6.7 available: 500hp and 1200lb-ft.

'Nuff said.

Yeah, you are taking a change, this is what I did and it got me by, so as you can see this is on level ground but I only go to rv's resort and some parts and koa's.

It really depends on the hitch/front cap/pin box/truck combo.

My Chevy is a standard bed. 6’9”. My B&W is set all the way back. At 90 degrees I’ve got almost 4” between the cab and cap. I’ve never gone 90 degrees getting into a site or making a u-turn. Just for the test. Chevy sets the pucks for the hitch back a little.

The tricky part for a new owner is they don’t know how the truck/FW/hitch will match up till they own it. There can be some trial and error. I started with a slider myself. With GM, B&W, and a newish Jayco FW, a standard bed is fine, but I only knew that because I’ve owned versions of this combos for the last 6 years.

Makes me cringe to think what stresses are placed on the springs, hangers and frame when a tandem axle rv with minimally designed components is in that 90 degree to TV position. Metal fatigue could be literally around the next corner. I avoid sharp turns as much as possible.

It's kind of funny that (at least with) GMC calls a Short Box a Standard Box and a Standard a Long Box, how times have changed.
FYI, Diesel motors are 331/3 more efficient than Gasoline motors.
For me, I went with the Diesel for the torque and HP that the newer Diesels produce, I went from a Jayco Talon (about 45') to a Jayco Eagle HT (about 33'), with a SRW 1 ton crew cab 4x4, I average 13-15 mpg loaded at 60mph and 20-22 mph at 70mph unloaded.
On the first truck, I bought a cheap Husky 5th wheel hitch ( big mistake), on the 2nd truck, Bought the puck system, Curt slider, that the dealership sold, what a difference.

Yeah it looked awful. There’s really no reason to ever do those kind of angles with these trailer. I only do it when my setup changes(new truck/hitch setup).
