freshwater hose - film inside?
See pic - I suspect someone out there has seen this before, need an opinion. First trip of this season, I went to hook up my fresh water hoses to the water supply, and flushed some water into a white pail -- and had a bunch of stuff come out the hose (glad I did this before connecting to my rig). Process of elimination confirmed it was NOT the water supply. One of my fw hoses had this thin brown film coming out in small pieces - lots of it. The other hose was fine. Picture shows some of the film I captured. It wasn't slimy, so I don't think it's algae. I have since filled the hose with vinegar / water, let it soak overnight, flushed well, then sanitized with bleach and flushed again. It seems to have removed everything, enough that I shouldn't be clogging my filter now. Haven't hooked up the hose yet, but I think the treatments should make it safe to use now.
Any opinions on what this is? Hose is < 2 years old, used only for freshwater supply. I suspect something I picked up from a prior campsite, and/or had some standing water sitting in it since last fall.

Before I use my hose I pour some bleach in it with a funnel screw the ends together and let the bleach do it’s thing.
Then I connect it to the kitchen faucet and run hot water through it.

Did you ever find out what this was? Or how to fix it?
Thanks.

Water with high iron content can leave behind brown sludge. It can also contain bacterial growth (harmless) that can result in slime that gets caught on screens and aerators.

I did resolve this. I didn't want to chance whatever it was being harmful - so I used a water / bleach solution and filled the hose, capping off both ends. After it sat overnight and then was rinsed well, it was fine. I now take care to dry them out after a trip, then store them uncapped - and have had no problems since.

It's called bio-film. It will form in water lines over time as well. Happens in washing machines at home, hot tubs etc. That's why sanitizing your fresh water system including hoses is very important.

Thank you for the explanation. I'm careful to sanitize the tank each season; I guess I had to learn the hard way that first year, regarding the hose.
