Hurricane coming

we full-time in the Northpoint below. So far it looks like the hurricane coming up the coast is going to be hitting us dead center. If the winds are 85 mph plus does anyone know if the 5er will flip over. Of course we won't be in it when it hits, Will stay at our kids house.

There is a strong likelihood that it will take damage, and might tip over depending on wind direction. There’s no way to tow it to a safer park?

Not really I just got out of the hospital after having surgery. I was just curious. I have to take my chances. Thanks for the reply

Be safe! Don't take chances if you can't move it. It can be replaced and you and your family can't.

I would try to hook it to the truck and park it into the wind. Knowing which way the strongest winds will come from depend on the track of the hurricane. If you are west of the center then your winds more from the north, if you are on the east side then the strongest winds will be from the south. If you are directly in the path then the winds will shift from all directions so it doesn't matter much, I would still try to park it facing south if nothing else and if you can do so. Best Luck, let us know how your doing over the course of the hurricane. ~CA

I'm on Long Island and we canceled our stay out on the east end. We had a campsite 300 yards from the south shore. Not where we want to be even if it downgrades to a tropical storm.

I’m on Long Island as well prepping for this storm. My trailer is in my driveway and I plan on putting down the stabilizers in hopes this keeps the trailer stable as the wind picks up and prevent it from flipping. I’m not sure if it will work but it makes sense in my head lol

85mph is pretty strong. Not really much you can do but maybe strap it down. Even then, 85mph will wreak havoc. Maybe park it on the leeward side of another building.

I have not been following the storm. Another item to do is fill the tanks with fresh water. 3-4 full tanks adds a lot of weight way down low, improving the center of gravity.

Just don't fill the grey and black tanks to full if you a riding out the storm in it.

Good luck

I read somewhere a year or two ago that 55 mph is the top speed for winds hitting the side of an RV.

If wind speeds are over 55 mph you need to get out of Dodge or expect to experience damage and possible injury.

Anyone that stays in a storms path deserves everything that happens to them.

Less than a year ago, I saw on the news of several travel trailers being turned over by winds somewhere out West while camping. Think the winds were 70 mph. Some were large trailers.

Thats a bit harsh. The OP is not staying. His rig is. Long Island is not easy to leave particularly as ferry service has been suspended.

We are lucky and will be watching the Weather Channel. We should get the remains of Henri Monday but it will be no big deal. My daughters home town is in the projected path of the eye.

I would imagine that a Cat 1 will leave some RVS broken and some not. There has been far worse hurricanes in the South.. Its just that the NE has three decades without much of one and its very heavily forested..

I would be trying to get out of there with the trailer.

Interesting that not a lot of folks from the southeast chiming in!!

I've always parked my tt in driveway stabilizers down. My drive faces east-west. Have weathered all 'canes that came through the Daytona area. Three back to back in 2004!!
I would move away from trees if possible and make sure insurance is paid up.
Never left, only because I was considered a first responder before I retired.

Knock it off. The OP just had surgery and all the bridges off the Island are jammed and at a standstill.

The OP is from yesterday, which would not help at that time, but the weather service has been talking about the path for a week now. No surprise at all.

You really can't read can you. He was in the hospital!. The track shifted some 200 miles west just yesterday. Before it was just a guess hitting Portland Maine directly. Now its not coming to Maine at all.

Oh let me guess you are watching the Weathertainment Channel including Cantore and his dancing minions.

I'm from the south east and have commented on it in post #6. We don't take hurricanes lightly and we always leave if possible taking in account the latest weather forecast and our trusted local forecasters. The national weather channels are not where we go to get the latest and straightest.

We usually have over a week to plan our response and if it's headed anywhere near us or to the east of us we leave with all we value that can be carried. Make sure your insurance is paid up and in force.

I can see the back of Folly Beach from my house and I am retired. No reason for me to be here if a threat is real.

The op was really asking how to best help his rig survive. There is really not much you do if you get slammed with one except leave with it and he couldn't.
