Jayco 5th Wheel Slides Open in Snow

Hello -

I have a Jayco Eagle 5th wheel with the mega slide. The mega slide has a topper but the smaller slide doesn't. I left the slides open with the intention of coming back a few weeks later. Unfortunately, life happened and I haven't been there in 2 months.

The unit is in northern Wisconsin so inevitably it snows. The area has received about 10 inches at this point but only just recently.

It's going to be quite cold for the next several weeks as well.

Should I be seriously concerned about snow on the slides? I plan to get up there next week but I am debating whether I need to take an emergency trip. It's about 3 hours away.

From what I've read I also will most likely not be able to close the slides.

Looking for some advice... Thanks.

Go look at the RV dealers near you. They probably have the slides open with that much snow on them.

At this point, if you can't close them anyway, whats the point in worrying? You can't change anything, wait until it thaws and then close your slides.

We camped seasonal many years and always had the slide out with 2 to 4 feet of snow on it, depending on the year

Spent last January in SC during the record snow. 12” of white stuff on our 28.5RSTS HT. When time to pack up, ladder + broom = no problem. Back to FL no issues. The trick is to have slide toppers. Keeps snow from melting/refereeing around roof seals. Makes removing the snow pack easy..

mboudro,

Welcome to JOF

The inability to close your slides is a possibility...., but I personally would be inclined to do a visual inspection ASAP under the present conditions. As mentioned, having a ladder and shop push broom available may be helpful.

The following recent JOF thread also touches on the subject of extended slides, toppers, and snow buildup:
