My Propane Sensor Won't Stop Beeping
How do I turn this built in propane sensor off? I looked through the owner's manual and it says that it's at the end of it's life and needs to be replaced. (Determined by the 30 seconds between the beep and the blinking lights). I'm not surprised as my trailer is a 2012 and the life on them is about 8 years. I can't figure out how to get thr front cover off or what to do to get the dang thing to shut up without breaking something lol! I bought an aftermarket propane/carb9n monoxide sensor so I don't need the built in one anymore.

Most likely, you will just have to disconnect it. They are not wired on a switch.

Access the back side of the device and cut one of the wires near the crimp-on connector.

Yes. That is probably your easiest choice.

Do I need to disconnect my power before I cut this wire and after I cut it do I just leave it back there live? I don't know much about electrical stuff.

Just cut the ground wire. Since it's a 2012, that's the second one. The end of life will happen at 5 years give or take a month or two, from the time it's powered up. Our TT is he same year, and we're on number 3.

A low battery will make it beep also, but given it’s age it’s probably dying.

It doesn't have a battery. It's wired in.

If I only cut the ground wire that will be enough to make it stop beeping? I hope so because that's way more easy than any other suggestions I've received today!

Yes. there' s a red power wire and a black ground wire. Cutting either one will silence it. You won't have any alarm if it senses a propane or CO presence, so get a new one to replace it, for your safety.

I agree with those that recommended to replace the propane sensor. With your trailer being a 2012, that would make the sensor 10 years old. That means it's time to replace for safety reasons.

If you are camping without hookups, no solar, and no generator, it’s working off your battery

When I replaced mine I wired in an inline fuse so that if it happens in the middle of the night I can pull the fuse to silence it until I can get replacement. Otherwise you can turn off battery shut off but that will kill the 12V lights as well.

you can disconnect it from the wall and remove the sensor at the wiring.

Put a flat bladed screwdriver under the edge of the outer flange and pop it off. It takes a little pressure. I just did it on mine.

Stop!! before cutting your wires, check out this possibility.
When I silicone something if the spray gets into my house the propane beeper goes off. If there is any chemical open and the heat comes on the propane sensor goes off.'Such as Lysol spray.
Be aware that the propane sensor is to save your life! So before you cut anything! get a hand held sensor and see if it is also getting that reading. I have a handheld one I bought for just that reason. Two is better than one.! Our scariest time was the first time we filled our newly purchased preowned 2012 Grey hawk right out of Camping World inspection. We went to the local gas station and the gal filled with propane, in the process the beeper went off the alarms didn't quit when she quit putting it in. The police and fire wagons all came. the gas station was cordoned off in the middle of the town. We weren't allowed to leave with the vehicle as they thought it was going to explode. The possibility of a faulty valve on the filling side of it was thought possible. We had to leave our just new purchase sitting t here all night until Camping world could get it in the morning. We still have no idea what went wrong. Camping world found no leakage at all and they drove it back to camping world for another inspection there. The alarms were all off of course when the spigot was closed. We still think it was the filling agent, who actually was new and refused to ever fill another one. But Camping world put a new connection part on anyway for safety measure. This was all on New Years Eve we spent until 11 pm in the gas station. Having a second meter is a good idea! realizing that any chemical seems to set ours off. Have an expert evaluate to make sure there is no leak on the refrig, stove etc. Beats an explosion.

The SAFE and proper thing to do is REPLACE IT! I have a 2013, and just replaced mine the second time. Mine is both propane and CO detector.

I should have added that it should be replaced. Mine went crazy and I disconnected it and replaced it the next day.
