North Point TV

I'm still deciding what truck I want to get to pull the fifth wheel - I think I am going F350 or 3500 SRW, depending on what I can find with an adequate payload rating. However, for those of you with diesel TV's, do you find that the truck is pretty much dedicated to just towing the fiver? I know that daily short trips around town probably is not too great for a diesel, so I am thinking I may look for a pre-owned truck and then get a little car to run around town. Or just keep my F-150. Any thoughts?

And yes, I definitely put the cart before the horse!

I drive my Ram 3500 6.7 tow vehicle 40 miles roundtrip 3 days a week. Otherwise it stays parked until we connect to Northpoint. I use my wife's car otherwise.

You failed to mention which North Point model did you buy. Makes somewhat of a difference on what you will need to safely & comfortably tow it.

Thanks - sorry if I wasn't clear. I can figure out what truck I need, I was just wondering how many use their fifth wheel TV for a daily driver when not towing. I kind of like Springhook's M.O., maybe I'll just explain to the wife that I will be using her car more often.

Gotcha...........IMHO, I would go with a dually. The stability is far superior.

My diesel tows my 377 and is my daily vehicle. We use it to go to church, shopping plus I take it to work and all my jobsite which can be more than 100 miles away. I pull our rig 12 times a year so the rest is my use and I wouldn't have it any other way

Hi,
I have a 2019 Chevy 3500 SRW. It is also my daily driver. Used to go to work everyday and I make short trips all the time. Now goes 3 days a week to work. Around a 20 mile drive. It has about 30K on it now so I guess I cannot say something about the long term but no problems so far.

I have a 2015 6.7 Diesel F350 4x4 as my prime mover and it's my daily driver and work truck. Pulls my 2015 Pinnacle 36REQS like an APE and drives like a Caddy. Does it pretty economically too. And before everybody points out the cost of diesel, it's still cheaper than premium gasoline.

The truck is also a daily driver, and in fact we're in it more than DW's car. The only periodic challenge we've had is parking, simply because it's long and has a huge turning radius. Typically park at the end of the lot though, especially as the extra walk would do me some good

I know it’s not your original question but I feel you are in dually country. Your GVWR is likely 16k#. Our 5th tips in at 13k and while my 350 is well matched I feel it’s pretty well maxed out. It’s not an issue of having the power to pull or stop but the weight it’s carrying (3k on the pin). We were experiencing quite a bit of squat. I’ve addressed the squat by installing Timbrens and they do a great job.
All this is just MHO.

We have the 383FKWS, so we got RAM 3500 DRW to pull it.
In our situation we sold everything to move out and do this full time traveling the US...we decided to keep our Mini Countryman so we could park the 3500 and tour around with the Mini ... saves a lot on fuel, but do have the regular maintenance costs for the extra vehicle.
We think this is the best for us. 1) Wife likes it so she doesn't have to put up with me in the truck while driving in traffic... ; )
2) IF truck problem, we have a second vehicle that gets us around...worked well
when we left some items at a recent stop...she was able to run back and get them while I continued down the road without loosing travel time...

Works well for us so far...
