Odd thing happened.
I had my NorthPoint into the dealer to fix some body damage
Took it in the day after I damaged it. Picked it up, fixed, 3 days later.
Here's the problem.
I went camping this weekend. When I got to the site, I turned on the water pump.....no water at the faucet..??
Went out to look at the pump, and there is water pouring out of the water heater cover.
Open the cover and there the plug is just sitting there, and the water coming out the drain.
Who the heck took out my plug??
I called the dealer. They said no way they did that.
The threads are fine. It couldn't have blown out. I never had water in my driveway.
I can't figure this out.

Sure sounds like it happened while in the dealers possession...

Probably a service ticket mix up. A tech probably confused your unit with another one he/she was supposed to fix a plumbing/water heater issue on. Of course, they wouldn't have documented that they started working on the wrong unit so they most-likely would deny touching it for liability reasons without ever having checked with the tech to see if they mistakenly took the plug out. Just a hunch...

That's what I thought. And that's what I told the service guy.
But we both said why wouldn't he just put the plug back in.
If you're trying to hide a mistake then hide it.
Logically, your scenario is what happened.
I hate not knowing the answers to life's little mysteries

Most techs (& campers) suggest taking the plug out while not in use. The tech probably thought he was doing you a favor and didn't feel it needed documented.

I agree. I never leave the tank empty w/o water in it, unless I am the one that's going to fill it.
When a dealer winterizes one, they just pull the plug and let er drain. Sometimes they will pop the over flow.

Is this a problem? Before I had my tankless water heater I would always take the plug out and reinstall it before I left but there was a few times I forgot. My solution would be to put the plug in and then enjoy your weekend camping and not worry how to place blame on for there is no damage.

Yeah nothing to be unhappy about. Life has mysteries and some we will never know.
Just run the check list every time you setup and depart.

Yeah, the anode/drain nut on our Suburban water heater is an unusually large size. Stopped at a Sears and bought a socket to fit. (Is anyone else going to miss Sears when they finally die? I know I will.)

I'll miss them, but they've already sold the Craftsman and Kenmore name.

I actually cracked one of my Craftsman sockets 27 years ago. Never got around to taking it in.
Wonder if it's too late.

I won't miss them; not one bit (I don't miss Monkey Ward, either). Their power tools never were anything to write home about (to put it mildly in some cases) and Sears is notorious for tools that need proprietary consumables, then discontinuing the tool (an example is the powder actuated driver I got for my birthday a few decades ago; by the time I actually needed to use it a year after getting it to drive some nails into concrete, Sears had discontinued it and I could no longer get loads and shots to fit it). Plenty of stores sell hand tools that are as good as Craftsman that also have lifetime warranties and aren't as overpriced. Sears customer service, both in store and online, has become a joke.
I haven't actually bought anything from Sears in over a decade. I tried to buy a friend a Craftsman multitool for Christmas a couple, three of years ago since he already had other Sears battery operated power tools but that turned into a study in frustration (polite terminology) so I just bought him a Ryobi and some batteries for it and gave him a couple of chargers I was no longer using (I had replaced them with the one that holds six batteries) and actually saved a little money.
Sears appliances are just overpriced rebrands. Kenmore washing machines were grossly overpriced Whirlpools. The Kenmore parts were also overpriced, often by over 100%. I found that I could replace Kenmore parts for dramatically less by going to the Whirlpool parts supplier and finding the equivalent Whirlpool part number by using the parts diagrams in their catalogs.

My FIL and MIL met while working at Sears. She sold and gave classes in sewing machines and he sold insurance at Sears. Sears also used to do windows and siding. I find that amazing that a retailer used to do everything! They are still a HUGE anchor store at the Rochester MN mall!

No I don't miss Sears either, bought a water heater once and no standard 1" elements did fit. It is like U-Haul, they use their own specifications for everything. Seems like China is more up to par even if they sell poor quality, but so does the US.

My wife and I marvel at how the Sears store, located in Columbia, Mo. can keep the doors open. Their parking lot is always empty when others located in the mall are packed. When they merged with the big K, I decided I could do without Sears.
