Pinnacle Tire Upgrade

I am considering upgrading the tires on my 32RLTS Pinnacle. It is a new coach. Trying to avoid ever having a tire problem.

Stock tires are 255/85/16 Goodyear Endurance.

Considering upgrading to 245/70/19.5 Michelin ZXE. Going to mount on Boar wheels.

Has anyone made a similar upgrade.

I was surprised that have closed these tires were in size. You probably already knew this but others can see the attached screenshot for interest.

What is the weight of your trailer? What is the load range of the proposed new tires? I'm too lazy to look it up. And I assume the endurance tires you have are load range E?

You will never avoid all tire problems no matter what tire you install or how much you spend

Good point, probably did not word that well. Not realistic to say "Trying to avoid ever having a tire problem".

As an engineer, I am always thinking through loads, stress, strain, and effects of high temperatures.

I get worried with the tall 85 series tires. In high temps, going down grade, on a road with lots of curves, and a heavier 5th wheel.

Them 19.5 are gonna be big tires. You might wanna check your clearance, Clarance. Lol! Check how much you got between your current tires, bigger tires may hit each other going over bumps and such. Not to mention bigger (taller) tires will lessen you clearance between the tire and the bottom of your trailer floor. Pinnacles and Northpoints have axle and spring issues already due to not enough clearance up top.
I just had my recall done on my Northpoint. Initial inspection, jayco determined all I needed was bump stops. Somehow those were damaged in shipping, so the dealer ordered another set and jayco changed their mind and sent new bump stops AND new spring packs. New spring packs make mine sit at least an inch taller. I have to re stick my height and see exactly where I'm at because I'm gonna be real close to the 13' 6" max, if not over. Itll be close. I know I'd definitely be over max height if I put 19.5's on.

I thought the same thing, but look at the tire size comparison in my post above. The 19.5's have a much smaller sidewall, so they are actually 0.1" shorter in height.

I am going to fabricate some bump stops. I think they are good to have. I would be interested in what people have for bump stops on Northpoints or Pinnacles.

Lake, could you attach a picture of your bump stop to this post.

No problem. I gotta do this employment thing today (sucks. Lol!) but when I get home I'll snap a few pics and post them up for ya.
I'll also take some measurements of tires. I got 19.5's on my company F450 I drive and the Goodyear Endurance on my Northpoint.

But the sidewall on the ENDURANCE is engineered for the scuffing when turning etc. That is the big difference between the LT and the ST tires. If the sidewall doesn't flex enough you could pop it off the rim.

I've got the Sumo springs on my NP. Wouldn't these work as a bump stop? I know that they do improve the ride.

Lake, thanks for the pictures. Looks like a straight forward setup. Your travel is tight. Those should definitely help you. By the way, I like the blue calipers.

Dan, I think those function as a spring and a bump stop. That setup worked well on my previous Class A.

My shock brackets make it difficult to install directly over the axle. I think I will fabricate a new top plated with a slight extension to the rear to mount the bump stop a few inches of center.

Carlisle 235 80 16 G

I switched from stock E rated tires to these
Carlisle ST 235 80 16 G rated tires. They are heavy... they weigh about the same as the E rated tires with the aluminum rim still on it, so it adds weight to the trailer even though there is no additional weight on the frame.

I have run them for 2 years and they have served me well. I have had no issues with them on my 2016 Seismic Toy hauler.

We did the Boar upgrade last year. They we great to work with and couldn't be happier going to a much beefier tire than the stock ones. Went with the Continental's and the overall were 1/2 bigger. We also went with 19.5's on the dually. The commercial tires are a lot heavier than the stock tires were.

I have 17 Eagle 321RSTS with Endurance tires. I am pleased to report 23K without issues. I run TST pressure monitor. It has helped me ID nail leaker before it went flat Good luck

Ordered the Boar wheels and 245/70/19.5 Michelin ZXE's from Costco.

This weekend fabricated some bump stops. Had to offset from axle center due to shock mount bracket interference.

Gamehunter, what tire size did you have initially. And, what 19.5 tire size did you go with.

Army, good to hear your success with the Goodyear Endurance and reinforcing the usage of time pressure monitoring.

As a Tire Design engineer, I have no issues with running 85 series tires. Primary concern is the level of Reserve Load.

Your tire load capacity shoule be a MINIMUM of 115% of the actual measured load on the heaviest loaded tiee when the RV is loaded to the heaviest you ever expect to run.

A properly set TPMS is also a MUST in my opinion.
