Replacing Batteries

When I replace my batteries I will be on shore power. Is disconnecting the battery switch sufficient or do I need to take additional steps?

Believe you'll be good with just flipping the disconnect.

I have an inline fuse at my battery, I always pull it.

Some of these new rigs, do not fully disconnect the battery when the switch is flipped.

When plugged into shore power, I believe the converter tries to charge the battery through the battery cables. When you connect the new battery, you may get a spark from that charge. I could be wrong, but I think I'd shut off anything that's turned on and disconnect from shore power before I hooked up the new battery. Then, I'd reconnect to shore power after the battery was connected.

I'd rather have to reset my clocks than set off a spark that could ignite the battery fumes.

Remember to always disconnect the negative terminal first.

Al/Janet, what batteries did you end up with? Been researching and researching to the point my wife said I am on overload. Have been looking at Interstate AGM as well as the same we currently have. Right now have 4 Interstate Marine/RV Deep Cycle SRM-27. One of them is putting off sulfur smell so know it is bad. Thanks in advance.

I bought two 12 volt Trojans. Very pleased with them. Really hold their charge when going down the road using my residential fridge.

To be sure, flip the house breakers to “off”, the batt switch to “off” and then replace the batts. Is this necessary? Dunno. But it’s safe. JMHO.

My 5th, on shore power, no batt and batt switch “off”, I have no 12V. So my batt switch isolates the 12V side from shore power. Without a batt I have to turn the batt switch “on” to get 12V. Dunno if the converter is trying to charge the batt. Kinda makes sense to me but as my above suggestion; be safe. How long will it take? 30 min?
