Route advice

Hello all. See if anyone can help who may have traveled this way recently. San Antonio to Nashville and return. Coming to Nashville, we came up through Dallas, Little Rock, and Memphis. This route is about 100 miles shorter than an alternate route through Birmingham, New Orleans, and Houston. I hate going through Houston but it would allow us to visit family but not absolutely necessary. I didn't like the traffic and construction I saw in Dallas and some other cities. But that could be everywhere. Just thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone one chime in their thoughts. Heading back in a week. Thanks!

Look at taking I30, then US 271 to Tyler , west on Loop 323 to 31 to Waco.
If you have a toll pass , when you get to I20 on 271 go west just past Lindale take the toll road south to 31. Miss a lot that way. All good road either way.
