Satellite internet and TV

I have a 2018 355 MBQS. I have one of those Walley satellite TV receivers. Is there a way for me to get satellite internet through it—even if I have to get a separate router? If now, how can I get satellite internet?

Thank you,
Robert Gruber

The only satellite internets are Via-sat and Hughes Net. I have seen people with a portable set-up, but I've heard technically is is illegal, since the FCC supposedly requires all set-ups to be done by a Certified Tech. It is also a larger dish than what is used for regular Sat-TV.

Wally? That is a DISH product, current internet option is from a roof mounted satellite only. we use Verizon cellphone hotspot for internet.

Dear Mr. Gruber - NO. TV receivers (Satellite or otherwise) are configured to process specific signal frequencies. While it is possible to receive and (more importantly) transmit data via satellite, it's less than stellar. LOL I made a space joke!

Satellite internet is expensive compared to cable. Typically it's reserved for farm folk so far away from the big city, there's no other option. Then there's the matter of a fixed antenna/dish on the old farm house. You're in an RV on the road. That means you need a portable self configuring satellite dish you can afix to your rig or set on the ground. Then there's a matter of line of sight. Trees? Mountains? Forget it. If you can't get that perfect 35' angle in the southern sky, it's not going to happen.

Now for the good news. Get a nice cell booster for your rig. You'll get increased distance and performance and you can use a hotspot to update facebook and watch youtube. Good Luck!

Yesterday we lost signal on Verizon for the first time that I can remember. But we were having lunch on the banks of the Suwannee River which of course was way down and far, far away.

The restaurant had a bar, but our phones not a single one. Not even the Jetpack

Internet Connection

I use a Verizon MiFi Hot Spot Jetpack to get the Internet everywhere on my Laptop, in the house and in the RV. Years ago I used my cellphone. No problem in several years getting a good signal. I have not updated to the latest unit because of bad reviews.

verizon jetpack in the U.S. and a little bonus about it, I'm currently using it overseas, as its an unlocked jetpack, I just slip a sim card in it i purchased at the airport thats good for 10 gigs for 30 days, I just had to change the APN code in advanced settings to match the carrier ( Vodafone) so the cell towers can communicate with it.

I use my pre-paid AT&T cell phone as a hot spot. Works like a champ everywhere I have gone. Of course I have only gone to various locations around Southern California. One of these days I will venture out further. Currently I am on a beach camping kick.
