Depends on the slides.
If you have swinteck slides... They have the gear bars on the outside of the slide walls 4 total...Top and bottom on each end... Swinteck dont have a manual override. You find the slide controller and there is a button in the controller. You press it 6times then hold on the seventh. Lights on it will change.
This ups the amperage to the motors to get the slide closed. If a motor dies you need the slide out part way to get at the motor. That said they have been using swinteck slides since 2011ish.
Rack and pinion slides do have an override. Normally accessable under trailer opposite side to the slide. You can use a socket and ratchet or electric drill with adapter to socket. Not many problems with rack and pinion slides.
Or there are the cable system slides. I dont have much info on them. Cables top and bottom on each side of slide
Why swinteck slides? They are lightweight and cheaper to make and less involved to install.
Are they better?
I would hazzard a no given our experience so far.
Mickey mouse system with no real manual override. But made by Lippert and used by literally ever brand out there.
