Trouble with dry camping

When we fill our water holding tank and turn our valve controls to dry camp, we disconnect our water hookup, and turn on the pump, but the water back flows back out of the main water inlet. Any ideas what the problem might be?

The cone screen is flipped and is holding the check valve open. Many people and dealers flip it when winterizing so it sucks the antifreeze out of the jug easier.
