water pump stays on

Once the power to my Jayco Redhawk 23 XM gets turned on at the main breaker My water pump runs continually . Remove the terminals at the back of the water pump s/w and it doesn,t make any difference , only when you remove the fuse does it stop or once the fresh water tank is filled or you connect to city water does the pump seem to work like it should. My understanding is if the pump s/w is turned off it should not run period . any help would be appreciated. TXS JOHN

Check the outside shower. Ours has a pump switch, should be off.

As stated above, you likely have 2 switches for the water pump. One outside near your hookups and one at your control center. Either one will turn the pump on, but both need to be in the off position for the pump to stay off.

This is not true. An RV water pump with two switches will turn on and off at either location. It's the same basic wiring principal as three way switches for your hallway lighting at home.

Not on mine, if any water pump switch is on then the pump is on, they all have to be off in order for the pump to be off. Mine isn't wired like a three way switch with a traveler wire, just separate switches that any one can provide power to the pump. Not a great wiring design really (at least the switches are lighted). However it is the Jayco way... lol, at least back in 2010 and I think even on the newer ones, Johnynorthland and I discussed this a while back in a few messages if I remember correctly, and his newer 2019 Greyhawk was similarly wired as mine regarding the water pump. ~CA

Regarding the water pump thanks to all who gave me the answer . I found another pump s/w in the outside shower unit which I was not told about when I picked up the motor home and of course it was turned on . Problem solved TXS John

Wrong. Either can turn the pump ON, but both need to be OFF for pump to stay OFF. We're likely stating the same thing, just difference of explanations. Yes, with 2 switches, pump will come on with either switch. However, to turn pump off, both MUST be I the off position.
