Wheel/Tire Covers

Thoughts on tire covers while FW is stored or on extended trips.

Good idea.....

Sunshine has been the downfall of many a rubber tire....well before their expected life span

Thanks! We will be doing some extensive traveling through the south and staying at different places for a month or more and felt covers would be a good idea.

Al, they are a good idea and they work great, but sometimes it gets to be a chore putting them on and taking them off if you are moving around a lot.

Let me throw another suggestion at you. Try using Aerospace 303 on the tires. It contains a UV blocker in it. I think its like an SPF 40. That is what I use on my tires and mine are never covered and always stored outside next to my home. Of course, I wash my trailer often so the 303 gets reapplied often. Just a suggestion.

Thanks Tom................the Aerospace 303 sounds like an easier alternative.

I have them on now for winter storage but as soon as I move it closer to the house in the spring, the opposing slides open, totally cover all 4 wheels so I don't use them the rest of the year.

Makes sense that the slides, for the most part, would keep them from exposure to the sun.

The 303 makes sense too though. Some people say that not only the suns rays deteriorate the rubber but so does the ozone present in the air. My current trailer is coming up on 6 years old so will look carefully ate the original tires this spring. I have 3 vehicles that need new summer rubber this spring when the snow tires come off so the TT might have to wait

I've been using 303 on our tires for many years. Just attended a Jayco presentation at our dealership. They had a rep there from Tredit. Apparently Tredit supplies Jayco with the Endurance tire used on the Pinnacle and North Point. Maybe some other models as well. I asked about using 303 on the Endurance tire. He said not to use anything at all. Reasoning was the Endurance is new tire technology and they don't know how 303 will interact long term with the rubber compounds used in the Endurance. The Endurance has a 6 year warranty and I don't want to give Good Year a reason to deny a warranty claim, should I need it. I'm thinking about breathable tire covers now. I'll still use 303 on the slide seals though.

I use these and they were cheap. They have last two years plus and still going. I only needed one set as the other side of the trailer isn't in the sun. They fit perfect and don't even need to strap them on. Very easy to put on. They have never blown off.

We use covers. They start at about $30. They are easy to put on. Joan, the smart one, puts them on quick before the slides go out so ther is no crawling on the ground. They are form fitting enough that we do not use the ties or Velcro tabs and they stay secure.

I thought about the fact that the slides mostly shade the tires but we are often in exposed sites for extended periods with little other shade, so we use them since they are so easy (esp with Joan doing it)..

I use 303 on all rubber and tires. I put covers on when at home. I don't carry them with me when traveling.

I was in Walmart today and they had the tire covers at about the same price as I was going to send Amazon. These are the single tire cover . We have had the 2 tire cover since 2011 but they have gotten so dirty they don't come clean any more.
