Question Winegard Rayzar

How do you check the coax connections on the HD antenna? I scan for channels and with 24 hours loose most of the channels with a lot of pixelation. And yes the booster is turned on.

They use crap chrimp on connectors at the factory that fall off when you touch them. I had to redo all my connections. I didn't do the connection at the antenna though. I did do all the rest. I used good compression connectors.

Earl, can you get to the connections that are on the roof?

Mine didn't have any external connections at the roof. It connects through the ceiling some how. I didn't touch the connection at the antenna. We rarely use it so I didn't bother trying to take it apart.

Maybe if you download the antenna manual you can get an idea how it's connected and how to access it.

Thanks Earl, I'll do that. I looked through all my paperwork but the dealer didn't supply me a manual on that antenna. I'll check it out on the web. BTW, I'm have no plans of going on the roof for any matter, I'll get someone to do it for me...........I turn 74 this month and plan on celebrating my birthday

Don't blame you. I'm 42 and fat, so I don't like the roof either! Lol
Hopefully you can access the coax connection at the ceiling where the knob and face plate are.
That coax will run to the booster then to the wall plates. So you would need to redo all the connections at the booster and at the walls plates. And redo the ones between the TV's and wall plates. Or install good ones.
I use sat at times so I redid every single connection but at the antenna. Lol lots of connectors I used.

I'll have to add that to my project list! Thanks for your feedback.

You may be able to get to the coax connection between the antenna and the interior wiring, depending on how sloppy/carefree the installers got when they cut the hole in the ceiling panel to install it. The inside cap is just screwed to the ceiling and connects to the roof antenna via a plastic tube/stem that just slides into the antenna and inside cap.

Otherwise, the coax feeds out of the base of the antenna and short of peeling back the Dicor and lifting the entire antenna off the roof, there is no way that I know of to get to the coax connection from the roof to check to see if it was tightened very well.

I suspect it was hand tightened at best. Here is a video showing someone replacing an old batwing with the Rayzar and it shows how everything is put together and how the coax connects from underneath as well as how the inside handle is connected.

The coax connection is in the pedestal. You might be able to access it if you take the rotation device off the ceiling The RG6 cable from the pre-amp connects to a very thin coax pigtail that runs up to the antenna head.

On the subject..I pulled in my driveway this week and just happened to notice that the head of my Razar was gone. Ripped right off. Fortunately it didn’t rip the pedestal off the roof and cause damage, just broke the head off. Must have clipped it on a low hanging branch driving home after our last trip. I replaced it with one of the Winegard Air 360 dome antennas. No better or worse performance than the Razar but nothing to snag which is a plus as I camp in state parks that aren’t always “pruned”.
