Xantrex Inverter

I have a 2016 Jayco North Point 375 BHFS with a residential refrigerator. I couldn't turn the refrigerator on unless I turned the inverter on. The first thing I checked was the breaker the main and the refrigerator breaker were both on. I then checked the pop out breaker on the side of the inverter it was not popped out. I got my voltage meter and checked power at the inverter I have 122 volts at the inverter in and 117 at the inverter out. Is there a fix or do I need to replace it? If I have to replace it do I want to replace it with Xantrex or is there a better brand out there?

You have some trouble-shooting to do before assuming the inverter has failed.
If the inverter breaker tripped it was likely due to overload or a possible short circuit somewhere. If that breaker held when you reset it, and you have power in and out of the inverter, is the refrigerator now operating? Is any other 110 V appliance working on the inverter?

The refrigerator works when the inverter is on. Nothing was tripped. It looks like the inverter its self isn't working correctly. I've sent a RFI the Xantrex, but haven't heard back yet.

Sorry but I'm not getting it, I am not an electrician but I will follow this post.

Your refrigerator "will not" work if you inverter is off?

Your refrigerator "Will work" if you turn on the inverter?

Why are you saying your inverter is a problem? These are two separate circuits.

I would look to the convertor (main buss fuse-relay?) not the inverter. Take the cover off the breakers and check for voltage prior to and after the breaker. I bet you will find "No power" to the breaker (pwr-pole issue). Additionally, are their other items (TVs Microwave, ACs) having the same issues?

They are the same circuit there are 2 feeds to the refrigerator they both go through the inverter. 1 is the 120 volt shore power, 2 is the 12 volt battery. When you have 120 volt from your shore power the inverter should go into bypass mode. When you do not have shore power the 12 volt battery will feed the inverter and produce 120 volt for the refrigerator.

I need to know if there is a better inverter on the market and did I miss a trouble shooting step?

I don't think a 3 volt drop is out of the ordinary, 120 in 117 out. They say you can always see a slight difference since it is an electronic transfer and not mechanical.

There is an automatic transfer switch in the inverter. The transfer switch in not switching from battery to shore power. The inverter is always feeding from the batteries so I'm working my charger.

I did call Xantrex and spoke to a technician he suggested I try a hard reset, turn the battery feed and the shore power feed off for 20 minutes then try it. It didn't work. He dis say that they are designed to last longer then 3 years but I must have gotten one with a defective part. Of course it waited until the regular warrenty ran out.

I now have the Xantrex Pro Series XM 1000 I am going to replace it with the Xantrex Pro Series XM 1800. We'll see how that works. Hopefully it will get here before the weekend so I can get it in for the weeken

Please keep us informed in your replacement. I'm Interested in the cooling operation of your replacement. My Xantrex cooling fan runs (intermittently) in the on or in the off position, and is quite auditable from the master bedroom. Tech support says this is the normal operation. However I'm perplexed in why the cooling fan must cycle on/off when turned off.

Yep. That’s the way it is.

I put rubber grommets under the bottom...hushed it a little bit.

I read that even in the off position if you are in the bypass mode, the inverter still uses a small amount of current.

I recieved a message from FedEx that the inverter is on the truck and out for delivery. Looks like I'll have it installed tomorrow.

For those who are wondering why the fan still runs...the Xantrex inverters are also the battery chargers. Even when you are on shore power, some 12v things still pull from the batteries, and the inverter keeps them topped off.

Some might be, but the Xantrex Pro which is in most units isn’t a battery charger.

The fan runs, like pointed out in this thread, , because the transfer switch is electronic. If the fridge is on, no matter if the inverter is off and on shore power, or battery is running the fridge ...there is power running through the transfer switch.
I’ve have my shore power on when the weather was 32 degrees...the fan still went on.

It’s annoying, but that’s how it is designed.

Not correct.

This is the inverter that came in my North Point. It is an inverter/charger.

I guess those are in the newer ones.
Us Northpoint pioneers with older models have the Xantrex Pro.

Fan runs every 15-20 mins or so.

Will you be required to replace the battery cables to larger gauge? I'd like to upgrade my Xantrex to an 1800 but I hesitate replacing the cables.

I'm an electrician of 36 years and just read your spec sheet and no where does it mention anything about charging stages. It's an inverter.

And it would be the first time JAYCO used a double charging system. Converter/charger with an Inverter/charger.

I stand corrected on my inverter. Mine is just the X. The XC is the inverter/charger.
