Power cable bin failure

I am a new owner of a 2015 Seneca 37HJ.
Has anyone else had a complete failure of the bin holding the power cable reel?

After having RV serviced for important items, I took it to a park for couple days (closer to my house than storage facility) to check everything out & get it loaded for first trip of year. I split time between 2 campsites so had to extend & retract power cord twice and noted nothing awry, nothing loose.

On day one of our trip, I was in heavy traffic with close proximity to trucks on both sides and heard a loud bang and noted debris bouncing off my driverside rear tire. Immediately a truck pulled up along side and indicated I needed to look at my RV. I pulled off and did an examination; passenger side looked good and look at toad was clear. The drivers side front to back looking good but then noted my emergency exit window above the dinette was flapping in the wind and found the screen was missing. A quick glance of tire did not notice anything obvious. My mistake was not taking time to thoroughly examine the tire wheel well but but traffic was whizzing dangerously close by. I thought something came off the truck next to me and bounced off my unit and the trucker had seen my screen fly off as window was flapping. My TPMS showed nothing wrong with tire pressures so off I went.

Getting to the first campground, I opened the power cord bin and found NOTHING inside. It looked like the floor had been blown down & in, not out through the door. Looking closer I did see the side bin wall nearest the tire was couple inches closer to tire but not rubbing it. But there was a gaping hole into the underbody where the power reel used to be and bin floor was peeled downward.

Has anyone heard of this before?

Question: Could the end of the power cord come out of the opening and gotten run over by the rear tire? ... thus pulling out all of the cord and yanking the cord reel out?

Glad everyone is OK. I have not heard of a Power real unwinding on it's own. When you put the cord away, did you make sure it was pulled all they way back up into the compartment?? If something bumped/leaning on the switch maybe it could have unreeled while driving, but have not heard of it.

Excellent thought Slopoke.
That bin's coverplate was missing.
Another lesson learned!
It was retracted fully into the compartment.
The plate was on my list to make to keep water out of compartment.

A simple thought today.
On my next reel, i will make sure the plug ends up at a far end away from feed hole, whether or not there is a cover plate.

Are you having to replace the damaged storage housing? How much damage was done to the wiring from the reel to the Xfer switch?
