Yep... that is why many of the manufacturers used to make the fridge a three-way instead of the current 2-way. We had the choice of 120vAC -or- Propane -or- 12vDC. You could run down the road with the fridge on 12vDC as long as the engine was running to charge the battery from the 30A load that the 12v heater element took.
I remember forgetting to switch the fridge back to AC and ending up with a dead battery a few hours later.
