When I had the dealer install a Hayes air over electric brake controller.
I have towed 1100 miles home from the dealer with a 20’ open trailer and Jeep on it (7000 lbs) and it worked very well. The trailer braking is proportionate to the brake pedal which eliminates the “push” from the trailer before the brakes start to work (although I’m not sure you would feel it with this size rv). My only complaint with the Hayes is that it makes a click noise when you step on the brake pedal and starts to work. This happens every time, trailer or no trailer, which could annoy some people.
I have also used a red arc hidden setup on the Jeep and it was very good and I have had an old prodigy in the 2500 Ram for 15 years with zero complaints or issues and I have a newer 3500 Ram with factory controller. I have also borrowed friends trucks with surge style electric controllers which I would avoid at all costs.
I have towed at least 80,000 miles in my life and a good brake controller makes a lot of difference in the comfort of towing.
