13” tires

I have a 2014 jay feather 16xrb travel trailer. It has 13” tires, yet the sticker on the vehicle calls for 14” tires.

I am curious as to if the 14” tires are max, or if it should not have 13” tires on it.

I would think that it would sway less with larger tires.

Thoughts, and thanks for the help.

That's an interesting question. Is your spare tire the same size as what's on the trailer?
I think I would call Jayco Customer Service on Monday, and ask them why it has 13" tires on it, when the info sticker says 14".

13” tires are too light

I just ordered 14” tires.

Ridiculous. I found out that 13” tires are rated for 1350 Lbs, hardly enough for a 3500 Lb camper (loaded weight).

No wonder it sways so much. I can’t imagine there was any savings because 13” tires are not as easy to come by.

Are you the first owner? If not, someone could have replaced them. Dealer could have swapped them out for another customer, before you bought it.

As for load rating, they are always very close, they figure a bunch of the weight is on the tongue. It is very important to check your tire pressures before hitting the road .

Specifications!

Yes well I think someone must have just thought 13” tires were ok. Strange, it’s a 14. I would think tires would be original at this point.

Or, somebody cheaply put smaller tires in it before trading it in. The problem is, it is designed to use 14” tires. The wheel bearings are defined for that. The drive is designed for that. And the weight is designed for that. And from what I can tell, 13” tires are more expensive because they are no longer produced in high quantities.

So, none of this makes sense. When I got it, one of the tires had creases in it, and I think this may have been because of the weight issue.

So there we have it. Crazy! My old Jayco pop up even had 14” tires.

Thanks for your reply!

Posts online all show 13” tires

The 16xrb xls, if you look online all show a 13” wheel exactly like the one mine has. But the tag in the trailer calls for 14”.

Why would this be? Again, perhaps this is a maximum size. 14” tires are rated at another 350 Lbs, which gets me to 3,500 on weight.

The question is, is this a mistake? Will going with a larger tire cause a problem?

Thanks again
