2021 with rust?

I’m surprised my brand new 2021 is having issues.

-water heater supply and output were leaking on city water, fittings not tight (had pressure regulator installed)
-showing signs of corrosion. I’ve had it just over 24 hours.
-metal shavings and extra screws in several bulkheads noticed while finding and fixing water leak
-bulkhead corner 1x1 split from fastener

Is this normal? Advice? Seems like obvious problems for brand new.

Pretty much the experience of a lot of buyers. I had screws that did not go into anything. Multiple staples going in where there was nothing to hit. Leaking front window (major). After a few months I discovered loose wiring in the power panel and corrosion on the battery fuse. I touch up the black metal 2 or 3 times a year to keep the rust down. Yours may have been sitting outside for a while. Just lousy build quality.

Rust might not be your only problem as we all have a few to sort out with some more than others.
Not my Jayco but another one on this site

I had many of the same issues, screws / staples to nowhere, lots of loose water connections, construction debris etc but no major defects or mechanical issues. This is what I found when I pulled my load center though...

Un-like cars and trucks that are carried on a car carrier, your rig was towed from Indiana and probably over the winter, on roads that had salt or snow etc. As to the rust on the water heater, those are 3rd party parts and are also exposed to the elements since the access doors are vented.

Your water leaks should have been caught during your PDI with the dealer since they are supposed to have it connected to a water hose so you can operate everything before even leaving.

And yes you will find construction debris and loose screws etc. hiding in corners and various other areas.

I'd recommend Fluid Film on the axles and suspension parts.

I fluid film all my vehicles, my plow, my snow blower my trailers and even my lawn mowers. I buy it in 5 gallon buckets and apply it with a shutz gun.

If it was transported in the winter, its salt from the roads that eating that thing alive.
Like previously posted fluid film on suspension. Frame members, tongue, etc., I'd hit it with a wire wheel and them spray on some cold galvanize and them a good coat of paint. OR hit it with the wire wheel and then brush on some chassis saver paint. But dont get that stuff on you because it doesnt come off. Ask me how I know.
My enclosed snowmobile trailer I had was a steel frame and that the first thing I did was coat the frame in chassis saver. No rust.
As far as screws and other debris, you're gonna find that crap all over the place for years to come.

Our 2019 248RSBW also had a water leak.

Also found metal chips and saw dust in most of the bottom cabinets/storage areas and in the heating ducts.

Found bad taping in the ducts as well.

I am not surprised. I picked up a used 2019 in December 2020 and while I haven't found surface rust, I have found problems with the carpentry, construction debris galore, and wiring that even British Leyland / Lucas would have been concerned by.

Which model is this?

We picked up our '21 last August and discovered surface rust on the (supposedly) stainless steel pan or flange that the stovetop sits on. It's finally getting replaced this week. (Can anyone tell me how to attach a photo? When I click on the photo icon it asks for a URL. If I click on Advanced Go, it's clunky to find an image on my phone fro several months ago.)

Problems sound about normal. Our trailer is going on 5 yrs old and I'm still finding shavings and such coming out of the cabinets. Constantly fixing little things, the latest will be reattaching the cabinet face frame under the dinette seat in the slide.

Are these things covered under warranty? Seems unusual for everyone to have issues new, but I guess the market has come to accept this level of quality? Are we in a minority of people that even notice it?

How much of this can I ask for warranty repair on?

So far yours looks normal and in some cases it looks better than normal. For a few it’s like owning a boat on your 1st day & last day. If you’re handy with making adjustments you should be fine

Ah, how easy they make it! I'm worried about this whole Y2K thing, though. 🤣

I think the Y2K thing is long gone and we don't have to worry about Y3K?

We toured a factory in Indiana that make rv's, not Jayco, and the frames were piled up 2-3 high in the yard come rain or shine.

The next clock issue that may pose a problem is 03:14:08 GMT on Tuesday, 19 January 2038, around 17 years from now. This is when any remaining 32-bit UNIX operating systems find the 32-bit variable describing time, essentially a running counter, reaching the max value that the 32-bit signed integer can hold.

Hopefully most UNIX systems will be 64-bit by this point, but it's possible that inexpensive or commodity hardware may still be running on cheap 32-bit hardware. I predict problems for things like old residential broadband internet adapters, old security cameras, and other similar stuff that's running on old UNIX-based platforms.

I don't know that RV you have, nor what you paid for it. But just for sake of argument let's say you paid $20,000. Now, if you had paid $60,000 you might still have a few problems, but probably fewer.

A "typical" house might cost $250,000. If all you paid was 20, I guess you have to expect quality somewhat less.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but AFAIK, more complaints on RVs than any other product,

The poor workmanship is frustrating. The photos below are on our 2021 335T toy hauler frame - taken 1 week after delivery in June 2020. Rusty welds, cold lap and pin holes in welds. Working with Jayco and Lippert now on getting repairs done. One question Lippert asked is did the dealer do a wash down of the frame when they received it? Trying to confirm if that was done, I suspect it did not.
