While closing up the slides in preparation for TS Gordon, I noticed that the lower two screws on the black metal covers on either side of the kitchen slide were backed out and loose. I tried screwing them back in, only to find that they are not Phillips, T-15 or T-20 Torx. I have no idea what screwdriver will fit them but I could not find one in all my tools.

With that said I was able to hand screw them down, close the slide and today when I opened the slide, I noticed that the screws had pulled out again.

What is their function?

I guess on my next semi-monthly trip to the dealer for service on my 9 month old Jayco, I will have them look at the issue.

A standard square tip will fit, it just gives them a multi position for faster install.

Grumpy,

Thanks. I did not try my square tip attachments.

So do you know what the black plate is for? Is it structural or decorative? It looks like being pulled out, water can get behind the plate but if the plate pulls out every time the slide is closed and opened, will caulking it last?

I would recommend taking this into your dealer as soon as possible The black metal on the sides of the slide out are very important with keeping your slide attached to your unit. Some screws can be installed and become stripped but if it continues up the trim then it can become a lot larger of an issue. Check your other screws to make sure they are not stripped also. Usually if you just tighten them back up and it fixes the issue you should be fine. Just keep an eye on the rest of the screws.

Thanks. I just sent an email to my local dealer to see when he wants me to bring the trailer in.
