3M Command Strips / Wall Damage ?

I am looking to hang a couple of items on the walls of our travel trailer using 3M Command strips. Has anyone used these in their travel trailer? Did they damage the “paper” covered walls on the interior of the trailer?

I mounted 2 large hooks by my entry door and hung coats on them. Noticed they were pulling the lamination off of the wall after 6 months. Didn't tear it, and got them off, but it probably would have eventually. They left a de-laminated "blister".
Probably would have been fine for a lighter load like maybe a hat, but coats were too much.

We are using them on some of the sides of cabinetry for hanging coats. We do have some nano tape that we have some broom grabbers/holders on the wall with and those are doing just fine. However the nano tape is wider and longer than a command strip. So it might be a situation of size to weight ratio etc.. I do agree I would not put anything really heavy on them on a wall. The cabinet wall we hang coats and hats etc and all is fine.

We have lots of them, from small ones to hold keys, to the big coat hooks, no issue with the paneling. I did find. I had to wipe the area first with a little rubbing alcohol first, or they would only stick for a few weeks.

We've had one that was a problem. I used four to hang a sheet of metal we used to hold magnets. Three must have come loose and the fourth, in a lower corner, blistered before failing. All of the others, a dozen or more have held wall decor and more for years without fail.

We had a couple of them on areas that had the paper wall covering. They started to pull the paper up. Luckily we got them off without damaging the paper.

I use them a lot. Pictures, a lid from a barrel of Jim Beam an the only problem I've had is on the slide. That barrel lid has some weight but using 7 strips it has stayed on the wall. The 2 times I had an issue of it falling off was while camping at Darlington. It was around 98-99 (thermostat in truck read 108) degrees an the sun was pounding on the slide all day long. I guess the stickem got hot an couldn't hold the weight any longer.

I'll caution do not use anything like rubbing alcohol to clean wall first. It will remove the finish. I just peel an stick em an they're fine

We use them all over. But for nothing of any weight. Usually towels in the bathroom or a small picture, clock, etc. Never had one mess up the surface. I think heavier objects are too much weight and pull the paper away. They are only adhered to the surface material of the wall so they're vulnerable to heavy weight.

We've used them for coat hangers and keys and so far have had no problems, but we have had friends who have used them have caused bubbles in their wallpaper.

I used them for a long time before finding of all things an "As seen on TV" product called Alien Tape. It is amazing stuff and works very well at holding almost anything...

Exactly what he said.^^ Two trailers over 15 years without any issues. The only gotcha is to remember if you are moving or removing them to pull the tape enough before you pull the hook from the wall surface. 3M does make different grip 'strips' for different surfaces for them as well.

I just removed a picture bc I'm trading it and did rip the wallpaper after pulling down the release strip but I pulled too fast. The other side was fine. After pulling down the release tab just pull it away with a steady slow pull.

Removal

Thanks, I was also concerned about removal at a later date. It sound like a lot of
patience is best to remove these strips if/when it becomes necessary.

We have 8-10 of them in various places. On the vinyl “wallpaper” I found they pulled loose in the heat until I cleaned the spot first with rubbing alcohol. It lightens the color on the vinyl but it’s almost unnoticeable and behind the Command strip anyway. They stick great and come off with no problem. No damage to the wallpaper.

Command strips

I used two Command strips on the wall inside the RV house door to hang our RV keys last year and on the wall on the other side of the door I used them to hang three grill tools. So far the strips have stayed on the wall and there is no appearance of blistering (even with the Florida heat). Lightweight items will probably not create a problem for your walls.
