I think the more you let this situation happen, the worse it will get as that water is heavy and will stretch your fabric where the water pools, deepening the sag.
We put a fairly steep tilt angle on one side to get the water to run off.
We also use the large de-flappers to tightly pull the ends of the awning even tighter, which tends to take out some of the slack/sag that naturally occcurs in the middle of the awning.
