My dealer showed me this feature, too. They also said to be sure to fully release the knob before bringing the awning in.

I've dipped one side of the awning often to keep the run off to one side. I've always released the knob before retracting.

Mine to 16 Eagle made repair request at least five times. My 06 Holiday Rambler never did that.Seems like it would have to be the strut get stuck while in closed position. If anyone figures it out can you let us now? Really annoying!

Mine is a Carefree as well and I would not be surprised if he was wrong when he said it can be left in that position when stowed. I don't remember anything to the contrary in any of the manuals I received. There isn't a knob but some pins you push in to adjust one or both arms.

With the new Solara by Lippert, to adjust the pitch to facilitate water runoff, one just pulls down on the articulating arm and just leave it. What the manual is silent on is whether it needs to be adjusted back to original position before taking the awning in.

Doing nothing to facilitate water runoff, will result in the awning doing it for you, when the build of of water occurs, and you do not necessarily know which side of the awning will dump the water.

The manual does warn against tying the awning down. That's why it's always desirable to retract the awning when there are moderate or heavy winds, heavy rains, or prolonged absence from the RV.

Check the thumb screw. Make sure it is tight. After I tightened mine it seemed to have gotten better.
