A dirty roof is what causes black streaks. I generally wash the roof once a year and it keeps the black streaks minimized. I haven't cleaned it this year and don't have time anymore. That said Black Streak Remover in a spray bottle is what I've always used. You'll need to re-wax the area you cleaned.

There are products that remove them easily. I personally like "Spray Power" by Crown. It's getting harder to find. But Simple Green works to.

If you look near the roof there are places that direct the roof water run-off towards the edges. There the water runs down the sides of the rv and makes the black streaks. We installed at the ends of each "guide" a device that clips on and takes the run-off about 2" away from the rv. If the water doesn't hit, there ain't no black streak. Been using them since 1994.

Keeping the RV waxes helps to reduce the black streaks. Meguires' car wax will remove 'em with a little bit of elbow grease.

Gutter Extensions

OK. I wasn't clear enough. The clips are called gutter extensions at Camping World. They clip onto the slide-out channels to direct the water away from the sides. My 315rlts came with them installed and we have no black streaks to remove. the ones at CW are better because they are longer.

Here's a fuzzy pic. And of course it is sideways. But you get the idea.

Works great and is inexpensive

Try Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Removal spray. It works like magic.

Those harsh chemicals are rough on the coatings. When I parked outside I used turtle wax and a small buffer to remove them. If you put a good coat of wax on once a year they will wash off with soap and water.

I also use Simple Green. It works great to clean black streaks off and also to clean the roof. I just spray a small amount on and use a long handled soft brush like you would use to clean a car with some water to scrub it, then rinse with water.
