Did you do an extensive walk thru before taking possession?

Thinking of ordering a new 2018 JayFlight 34RSBS., but viewing some quality issues on new units from youtube videos has me kinda scared at spending 30+k for a TT. (Bought current one used).
Bottom line seems to be to do a complete walk thru before signing and handing over payment to the dealer. I have printed out extensive checklists, one couple says to plan on minimum 6 hours to do a thorough inspection (every cabinet, every valve, every door, slide, tank, etc...), to have the dealer have the fresh water tank filled ready for testing, propane filled ready for testing.
Walk thru on roof, seals, screws. Fit and finish on all interior and exterior panels/windows/doors/slides etc.....
How many of you do this and how many wished they had done it?
Seems the outcome is to check everything and have it stay at dealer until all is fixed before taking delivery. Dealer has an incentive to fix everything so transaction can be completed (and a happy customer of course).
Is this normal procedure for new units?
Is the dealer going to flip out when I tell him I need to do a thorough inspection that might take several hours?
I certainly do not expect anyone from the dealer to be there with me the whole time, only at completion to review it.
Thoughts?
What did you guys do?

Thanks,
David

Ours took about 2 hours. And I filmed it.

I have always been told plan on 2-2 1/2 hours and all tanks have been filled with both city water and pump operations checked.

Never done roof insp, but been going to same dealer since1977 so I know they did their job.

Agree.
About 2-3 hours.
I told dealer prep tech could take us through normal walk through then I would need some additional time with wife to check details.
No problem. We went over anything at the end.

I did check the rook to and climbed up optional ladder.

Our dealer insists on doing one. It's as much about looking for issues as it is in getting the customer familiar with the unit. It was about 2 hours.

45 minutes for the tech to get me up to speed on the updates.

Fortunatly (only 2.5 seasons in service) we haven't had any serious issues since the gas jet in the fridge clogged on the first outing.

There are plenty of minor (barely noticiable) issues that I haven't fixed yet.

As an unrepentant DIY'er I can afford to not pay full attention when the 'expert' explains things. I prefer the by-guess-and-by-gosh learning method.

So, for most folk, taking time to pay attention and document (video) the whole PMI will pay dividends later.

Two minor issues were apparent on mine before taking delivery on Feb 1 2017.
Those were fixed quickly.

Down the road and after using some of the features, more nasty stuff pops up.
Jackknife sofa screws into the studs at the back wall pulled out. 1"x1" support lumber?....Hello Jayco
Floor screws on that same sofa pulled out.
Dinette wood seat back screw pulled out of the slide (inside wall)
Shower surround wheels popped out of the lower track.

After 60 nights and less than a total 6 months old, the Simmons mattress developed a canyon down the middle.
The framework under the mattress sagged and two of the longitudinal pieces of lumber cracked and screws pulled out.
Two rear burners would not piezo ignite.

Dealer fixed it all and put in 2" x 4" lumber supports under the mattress.
Top roller on the shower surround was the culprit......but the dang rollers keep jumping out of the track regardless.

A few shakedown trips just might reveal what is not readily apparent.
Who can see if a screw will strip out or shower rollers will jump out?

The workmanship is not up to snuff and the using of less than beefy hardware/lumber in critical places is of concern.

I just read where some RV dealer let the new owners camp at the store for a couple days, to work the bugs out! No I did not do an extensive walk through. And I regretted it!

I can confirm this......
Johnnie Walker RV in Las Vegas allows new owners to stay on their property, with full hookups, for up to 5 days if needed.

I opted to forgo that and get closer to the Colorado river

My dealer already had the camper hooked up to power and full of water when we walked out to do the PDI. Both A/Cs and the fridge were already on as well. Tried everything out including the heat even though it was a warm day. Did not check the roof that day. Truthfully, I was ready for it to be over before the tech was done lol... I don't recall exactly how long it was but it was long enough.

Same here. The rook was OK and I did check what I could see on the roof from the trailer's ladder (knees not good and not fond of high places).

I tried everything (water pump, furnace, oven, stove, water heater (on propane), fridge (on elec & auto switch to propane), lights, fans, windows, blinds, air cond, many elec outlets (inside and outside), slide retract and extend, awning, doors, drawers, etc.,) and everything worked.

The most serious item was a scratched dining table top. The dealer promptly ordered a replacement table top at the end of the inspection. It was delivered to my house after a few - I don't recall how many - weeks.

I did but my rig was sitting on the dealers lot for a while.

We looked it over very thoroughly and then decided to look at some more brands/ models. When we came back in 6 months, it was still there and marked down a few thousand $$$. I backed my truck under it to verify clearance before we signed the papers.

Also, have them open and close the slides a few times.
