Feedback F250 gasser or Silverado 2500 gasser

I am looking for feedback (handling, towing experience, features, etc) from anyone who has towed with both the F250 gasser or Silverado 2500 gasser TV.

I know there is a big difference between a diesel and a gasser. I have towed with both types of engines.

The TV will be towing a Jayco 28BHBE (GVW 9,200 lbs)

Any feedback is nice. Please no brand bashing just looking for some useful information.

Thanks.

Our F250 gasser is adequate. I regret not looking for one with the 4:30 rear end since we only use ours for towing a 9950 lb gvwr FW. Anything heavier needs a F350 and diesel IMO.

I have a 2020 2500HD, gas, 2wd. We are towing a 2020 24RBS with a gvw of 7500 pounds. We usually pull around 7,000 pounds. With the 18” wheels and 3.73 rear axle, set the cruise control in M5 at 63-64 mph and just go. Rarely drops a gear, only on bigger hills. The OP has a unit almost a ton heavier, so I understand that. The only Ford experience that I know of is my BIL has a 2011 F250 regular cab with a 379 (6.2) in it. He pulls a bigger camper with a 6300 pound empty weight with no problem. I don’t know what his GVW is. I can’t remember his axle ratio. Hope this helps. Jay

Im pulling a Jayco 382FLRB that loaded out is about 16,000 lbs with a 2020 Silverado HD2500 gas (6.6 liter) with no problems at all just low fuel mileage around 8mpg on the flats. Added a set of Timbrens for the big bumps

No Chevrolet experience but I've got close to 15K miles towing our ~28 foot ORV with 6.2l F-250. Typical loaded trailer weights ~8000-8500 and it has a 9995 GVWR. I do have the 4.30 gears and it handles the mountain passes in the PNW very well. Running 87 octane I usually see 8-8.5mpg towing through combination of mountains and flats. Running 91/92 octane which Ford recommends in the owner's manual when hauling or towing heavier loads it's close to 1mpg better and the engine does feel a little peppier, especially under load. Just finished ~1100 tow from Seattle to Kanab, UT running 91/92 octane and currently have a solid 9mpg for the whole trip. One tank on the flats was closer to 9.6.

Here's some information on the topic that you probably won't use :

2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD with an 8.1L (496), Allison 5spd, 4.10 gears. Trailer scales right at 7000, but grosses at 7500.

MPG varies wildly from 5.5-8.5. I cruise at 65. But this beast hardly switches gears except on something more than a mild incline. It's smooth when it does shift. By comparison, my 06 Silverado 1500 5.3/4spd/3.42 shifted harshly, and worked hard with a 5k trailer.

On our first camping trip of the year, we had to go up a very steep incline right out of the campground when we left. I floored it to see if it would accelerate. It accelerated fairly hard all the way to the top of the hill where there was a stop sign. I was pretty pleased for a 19 year old truck. She Burns a little oil but that's a known issue with the 8.1 Big Blocks.

I owned the same truck with a 6.0L engine for about three weeks until it was stolen. It was better than my 5.3 but I think it would have worked harder than my 8.1. I'm kind of glad it got stolen.

I had a 2500 Dodge Ram 6.4L with the 4.10 gas I love it but when I move up to a 13k 5th wheel towing in the PNW I went diesel.

My F-250 pulls my 8k lbs TT very well.
3:73 axle ratio - I have pulled in the hills of KY without any problems but not on the huge mountains out west. I tend to use manual and change the gears myself (bouncing from 4th to 5th gear as needed) average between 7-8 MPG while pulling and only 11-12 MPG without pulling (but I do drive with a heavy foot).
No issues mechanically with the truck!
