Heater mod

Most of my camping is boondocking and I hate the furnaces that are installed in campers because they suck both propane and battery. I also do not like the noise at night. I started using buddy heaters (hanging connections through a window) about 15 years ago. For my new camper, I went with a Camco Wave 8 and installed a propane quick disconnect under my stove area.

Cost was reasonable, a 3 way brass propane fitting, 2 new hoses (3 and 5ft) various ends and a cable hatch. I moved the line from the stove to the 3 way, added the 2 cables (one back to the stove and one with a QD end), installed the cable hatch and am now ready for my next trip.

Always looking for quick mods that make life better!

Kool mod!

I also in the past ran gas line through window crack to a buddy heater.

Always wondered if manufactures ever thought about or tested this type of heater, instead of the gas furnace.

Probably a liability issue for manufacturers with the Tip Over possibility of a free standing heater.

I had installed a vented catalytic heater in a motor home I took skiing back in the 90’s worked great and never had any battery issues since we hardly used the forced air furnace.

I always wall mounted mine in older trailers.

Be very careful with your "buddy heaters". Most catalytic heaters and other non vented heaters produce both carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, both of which can kill you. They also create water vapor which can lead to moisture problems in your camper. I would invest in at least one more CO/Gas detector for your sleeping area.
