Inner Tire Wear On 2016 287BHSW

Hi Friends! I have been a year long reader and finally had a question of my very own. I noticed after parking my trailer back home after this last weekends road trip the inner tread of one of my tires was badly worn. The other side also has wearing although not as bad. I read that this could be from overloading, bad bearings or a bent axel. I am fairly confident it wasnt an overweight issue as we only load water ( 40 gallons) and add another 300 pounds max. The sticker says the max loaded weight is approx 7200 with a dry weight of 6250.

Is there any signs I can look for to try and narrow the reason down so I can be informed before taking it to the repair shop?

How much can I expect to pay for replacement or repair of a bent axel(if thats the worst case scenario)?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what it will cost in your area, but if you find a dedicated trailer shop, they should be able to diagnose the alignment (my guess) as well as the axle .

The place near me I trust specializes in commercial trailers (like dump truck trailers etc), but they do a good business and are quite familiar with RV trailers as well.

Welcome to the forum.

Did you buy your 287BHSW new? If so, have you checked into a replacement under warranty?

Thanks for all 3 responses. I didnt notice any unlevel travel while I was towing on the last trip. The tires always seemed to have a little cambor (in or out) while traveling or parked so I didnt make much of the angle until now.

I am the second owner of the trailer. The first owners kept it for a year and half or so so I figured I was out of the 2 year warranty in any case although I will check with Jayco.

When I had a bent axle (delivered with it) I didn't notice it till the first long trip I had, ~ 1,000 mile round trip. trailer had dual rear wheels and on one axle on one side it had a tire that was worn down significantly on the outside or inside (don't remember which) and the other side of the axle wasn't worn too much. If you're out of warranty, I'd try to find a commercial trailer repair shop to properly diagnose. Heck, I'd probably do that over a RV service location anyway..
