Lug Conversion to use Tow Vehicle Spare for Trailer?

2015 185 RB Baja. Original tire size is 235/75/R15, 5 lug. (5 x 4.75 pattern)
2017 Tacoma. Original tire size is 265/70/R16, 6 lug. (6 x 5.5 pattern), spare tire max load 2469lb

I have a spare tire for the travel trailer. It was originally mounted to the bumper, but I removed it to put a bike carrier receiver and a Blackstone grill table mount on the bumper instead. I don't want to interfere with existing offroad ground clearance by putting the tire underneath the trailer and frankly, I like not having to carry the extra weight considering how close these things are to the axle weight rating.

That got me thinking about using the tow vehicle's spare tire for the trailer in emergencies: Enough to get me to the next town at safe speeds. There's plenty of room in the trailer wheel well to fit a slightly taller tire. 3500lb / 2 = 1750lb is also well below the max spare tire load of 2469 lb. I'd need a 5-lug to 6-lug adapter plate or spacer.

Has anyone else done something similar?
