Manual tongue jack

My tongue jack is acting up. I was considering to install a 5000 pounds manual jack on my 29rks since i need to lift the rear of the truck too for the WD bars . I always like to save a few dollars

I wonder if my cordless drill 18 volts will be strong enough to crank it ?

When i use the trailer tongue jack i always need the drill not to far away, i use it for the stab so... what do you think ...

Personally, the money saved would be spent in inconvenience. I would replace mine with another power jack.

Not sure about the inconvenience ... but i like to look at other options .... even if its logical to replace it with an electric ;-)

We have always had a manual jack. It cranks easily by hand. Not sure how you would modify it for a drill. Maybe someone has invented a drill version, just haven't heard of it.

Good luck

Pretty simple to do ... the crank goes away replaced by a long 3/4 nut driiled to accomodate a locking pin for it ... google is your friend , a few video about that

Not sure 18V drill would lift the truck. My 20V will stop while dropping the stabilizers.

A drill motor is about the size of a walnut of golf ball. A jack motor is more like a oversize beer can.

With a powered jack my wife can do it, lifts the car with no apparent effort, faster and much less sweat. Worth the money to me!

Interesting conversion. This guy powers it up and down with an 18 volt drill

It's all about what gearing is in the jack.

Like Jagiven, I’ve always used my OEM manual jack and never had a problem. I lube it each spring and, so far, my arm has held up. I also hand-crank my stab jacks. It takes just a few seconds, isn’t hard and is quieter than a drill. Except for my grunting It sounds like a drill will work for you, however, but is it worth it?

It's up to you, but I'd get tired of cranking that jack in a hurry.

I'm curious how many cycles up and down you'd get from either an 18v or 20v drill? When we go camping, it's 8 cycles to hitch up and then unhook with a WDH. That would of course leave time to recharge a drill battery, but how high we have to lift both the truck and trailer to get the bars off depends on the terrain at the site. Just thinkin' out loud.

I seriously doubt an 18V drill will lift the truck and trailer high enuf to put sway bars on with a 29 ft. trailer. That's a lot of weight. But hey, what do I know?

You will likely end up spending more on replacing drills in the future than the cost of the power Jack, not to mention the frustration of the drills dying at the most inopportune times.

Looks like a good alternative for some folks. Nicely done.
