New tires

I’m looking to replace my TT tire. Looks as if towmax were original to the Jayco swift camper I own. Maxxis was one of my first choices but it’s not available at the moment. Not looking to go with Goodyear’s. Of the “China “ tires what’s everyone’s opinion? I realize 4-5 years is the average life span of tires. Carlisle and everything I knew are all made in China now. Thanks for the input

Why have you ruled out Goodyears?

I’ve ruled them out because they have the same life of 4-5 years as the China tires. I’ve also heard of some criticism of them as well.

Just an FYI, when I had a TT, I replaced my "china bombs" with Goodyear Endurance tires.....what a difference it made, TT tracked true with no sway. The "china bombs" have virtually no sidewall strength hence the TT sway I was getting. The Goodyear's solved that.

We had 2 dramatic tire failures in a 70 mile stretch during our first year of ownership. Thank you TowMax!
Overloaded? Not according to the CAT Scale.
Improper tire pressure? Not according to my TPMS.
Overspeed? Never over 65.
Made in China? Yup.
I bought G’year G614’s which have been flawless (LT tires).

Only USA made trailer tires I am aware of, is the Goodyear Endurance, and the Carlisle USA Tire (bias)

Carlisle makes all of their tires in the USA except their Trial line trailer tires. https://carlisletire.s3.amazonaws.co...es_Catalog.pdf (page 34-37)

I have Carlisle Radial Trail HD on my TT, I went up one load rating over the OEM tires. I have been extremely happy with them. I had them balanced when installed, and had metal valve stems installed. One tire needed no weights, three other tires needed about 1/2 ounce. I run full side wall tire pressure.

My old TowMax, would loose about 5 psi a month. Only air pressure these Carlisle lose is from me checking the tire pressure. Handling is very good.

I am very happy with them, and would have no concerns putting them on another trailer.

No matter what trailer tire you buy, they all have a short life.

I’ve looked at Carlisle. I thought they were China. The drawback to them is availability and the speed limitation. That’s my dilemma. They all have a short lifespan. Trying to decide if it’s worth the extra $300 for the same lifespan. I realize that damage to my TT if accident would occur would be more than $300. But also have been told people have had same separation from endurance tires. I appreciate all the opinions. That’s what I’m looking for here to weigh out all the pros and cons based off other’s experience.

If you do a search here on JOF, I think you’ll find overwhelming preference and good reviews for the GYE tires. Yeah, there always are outliers — a problem with a GY tire or trouble-free China bomb. But personally, I like to play the odds and it’s worth the extra cost for the peace of mind with GY. JMHO.

Most ST tires are speed rated for between 66 nd 75 mph. My Trail HD has a speed rating of 81 mph. Trail HD tire's do range from 75 to 81 mph based on the tire size. Absolutely no way will I ever travel at that speed. But I am comfortable with knowing if my speed does creep up I am not doing any damage to my tires.

When you change your tires, do not forget your spare.

When I was looking for tires I did a lot of research on ST tires. Here is a few links;

Where did you get that information?? My GE tires are now 2 years old, have almost 5000 miles on them, and still look new. I have never heard of any separations issues with those tires on this, or any other forum. Sounds like a biased opinion from a disgruntled tire store owner....

I have had Maxxis and Goodyear Endurance. (Original Rainiers came on the trailer).

I'd not hesitate going with the Endurance. Good reputation aand speed rating of 87 mph.

Whatever brand you get, have the tires balanced!

I've got Carlisles and they're fantastic.

81mph speed rating.

I've had them 4 years and 30,000km.

Remaining read depth is 7/32nds.

Goodyears would've been worn out by now.

I plan to keep these for 7 years.

I appreciate all the input. Not sure which direction I’m going yet. Goodyear’s and Carlisle tires and currently not available. The Goodyear feedback I had before posting was from people who had experience after purchasing them. Proving to be difficult with tire availability. Thanks again

I was well pleased with Goodyear Endurance but I went to replace them and couldn't find any available. I ordered Carlisles from Simple Tire at a good price and and got them in just a few days. I have put about a thousand miles on them and I like them so far.
