Newbie Here

2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 212qb is our first camper that we purchased last week. We will be taking a few short weekend trips in the spring only going about 2 hours from home in Upstate NY. Any advice is welcome.

Welcome from Northern California! I believe you will get a lot of good advice here. There are some really experienced folks on this site. If your not experienced at backing up your trailer you will need some instructions/advice. YouTube has some great videos on different techniques. Once you find a technique that works for you , practice, practice and more practice! A large empty parking lot is your friend. Again welcome and happy camping!!

Welcome to JOF from coastal SC.

My advice is to get familiar with your new rig as you use it. Find out where and what the various valves do, where the fuses are located and verify you have a few spares, just in case.

Above all enjoy the rig all you can.

Why wait for your first "trip" in the spring. Go sleep in it overnight. Cook in it. Put water in it and use the faucets, toilets, etc. Then empty it. Then with some experience, the big trip is not the first trip.

Since we live in Upstate NY our new rig has been winterized and is in storage until April. Thats when the fun will begin. Thank you for your input. I'm sure we will set up on our property and spend a night or two.

The first trip in Camp Driveway, or very close to home is a good idea. Investing in an EMS (Electrical Management System) like a Hughes Watchdog, or Progressive Industries (for example) will protect your RV in case of power issues, which DO happen. We don't even plug ours in at home without it.

Take a pad of paper to jot down things you forgot to bring, want to buy, things you'd like to do to it, etc. Not all power pedestals, water spigots, and sewer connections are close to the sites, so maybe an extra length of hose, power cord extension, or length of sewer hose would be required at campgrounds you go to.
