No Battery power?

Hi,
We are new 2005 Jayco 28 ft travel trailer owners. We are on the road and having an issue with our battery. It is not powering anything when AC power is off. The battery is charged. I need a wiring schematic to help troubleshoot.
I have requested one from Jayco but don't want to wait until they send it if someone has the DC power system schematic and location of components it would be great!

Thanks for any help you can give!

Ed and Tina

A voltmeter or even a DC test light will help a lot. With either one you can follow the power coming from the battery, and probably locate the problem.

It sounds like the converter is bad or connected wrong. Or a fuse. Does it work again if you disconnect shore power?

Welcome to the Forum from Western New York State!

Check for an inline blade fuse holder at the battery, or possibly back at the frame somewhere. You can indeed ask Jayco for a schematic, but they don't keep them in their system for that long. Generally speaking, they're purged after several years.

I also will agree with getting a decent digital Volt Ohm Meter (VOM). They're an indispensable tool to have with you.

I would turn off all your electricity, open up you inverter panel and make sure that all the wires are connected. Then check wiring connections that you can see, especially near all lthe fuses. Check each breaker and fuse. On my first RV trip ever I found that the wire to the outside recepticle had come off.

Check the fuse near the battery. It might be a 30 amp fuse in a rubber housing. Also check to see if the battery disconnect switch (if you have one) is not "open." Note that battery charge can fool you as it can show full charge on a hand-held meter while actually having little capacity. Some call it a "skin charge." Batteries need to be load-tested to thoroughly test them.
