Recent Jay Flight SLX 264bhw modification
We have a 2017 Jay Flight SLX 264bhw. I finally got around to installing struts so we can easily access the storage area under the bed. I got the parts from our dealer Willies RV in Bloomer WI, but I saw you can also get these parts from NAPA auto. These were the parts I got:
• 2 26-inch struts that were rated for 100 pounds
• 4 ball stud brackets
• 6 #10 bolts that were 1.5-inch-long with washers and nuts
• 6 #10 bolts that were 1.25-inch-long with washers and nuts
These were the steps I followed:
• I first mounted the lower brackets about 5.25 inches from the corner of the bed support frame (this is where Jayco is installing the brackets on the new 2019 264bhs).
• I then attached one end of the strut to these lower brackets, and then lifted the other end of the strut to determine where the upper bracket needed to be attached to the bed support.
I had the mattress off the plywood when I did the installation. Now when I tried to lower the plywood down after the struts were installed, it wouldn’t go down. I just didn’t have an enough weight to push these 100-pound struts down. But after I put the mattress back onto the plywood, I was able to push the bed down. I also installed a handle for getting the bed to lift. I know we will use this storage area under the bed more often now!
