Replacing tires. 6 to 8 ply ok?

Hi,
I’m scheduled to have my TT tires replaced this weekend. I have a 2014 23mbh(5500lbs/2 axles).
There were towmax 205/75r/15s 6ply on there from dealer but are 6 years old now.
Just tires are putting Goodyear endurance’s on there. There’s no problem upgrading to these 8 ply tires? I was fine till I read online that 8ply will heat up more and last less. Darn internet for making me confused. Was gonna call jayco or dealer but they rarely help.

Any thoughts?

Thankyou

You’ll love the Endurance, they ride so much better on my 23RB. You’ll also have the confidence of a stronger better tire under your camper.

Thx- that gives me piece of mind. Are they thicker-I E bigger radius or is the 8 ply a built in thing9sorry I’m a tire idiot).
Also w the towmax I always kept the pressure at 50psi (max) when driving).
What psi do theGYEs run at, and do you alter this in very hot or cold weather?

Thx

Goodyear’s are much heavier because they are thicker on the sides. They run at 65 psi and it should be embossed in large letter right on the sidewall of the tire. You ought to let them show you how much thicker and heavier they are. I picked up one of my old cheapie Chinese tires and then one of the Goodyear’s and it was crazy. They are the same size. Keep them filled to 65 always

Great info.
I’m towing w a 1/2 ton-(planning 3/4upgrade soon). Not at my limit but not exactly comfortable w the setup either.
Is the considerable extra weight of these 4 tires plus spare anything to worry about?

Thx again, this really helping my decision

Not enough of a difference to even notice as far as towing. Just impressive as far as how much more sturdy they are. Honestly while your looking to upgrade I’d look at 1 tons if your going to pull it a lot. I went from a 3/4 ton gas which did a pretty good job to a 1 ton diesel and it was night and day difference. I honestly forget my camper is back there on long trips. I know a 1 ton seems like overkill but it’s not when pulling a heavy camper. The power of the diesel and the towing capacity of the 1 ton truck make the trips a pleasure instead of white knuckle at times. When I’m in traffic on a big hill and I can stop and start like I’m on flat ground it’s insane. Just my food for thought.

Thx.
Yeah. Settled on a new 2020 ram2500 gas coming out.
I pondered diesel (not 1 ton tho) but it’s my daily driver n I’m less than 1 mile from work then into a small parking lot w all the other employees prius’s.
Only 1 mile every day workout will make the diesel very unhappy I understand.

A 3/4 w a sway bar n I’ll be happy enough I think.

I think you’ll be just fine. The new trucks have awesome towing capacity. Still would like to see a big 1 ton diesel dually sitting in a lot full of Prius.

From what I've read the new GM 6.6 gas is a lot nicer than the Ram 6.4 even with the new 8 sp.
There's a few YouTube vids of the GM 6.6 gas out there. Might be worth checking into.

Smart move on having the 23MBH spare replaced at the same time...., and I agree that the Goodyear Endurance Load Range D (65psi/8 ply) is a nice upgrade from the original Towmax Load Range C tires.

You might want to double check that your rims will go to 65 pounds plus whatever expansion heat, etc. causes on tire pressure as you travel.

I found it was cheaper to buy tires over the internet already mounted as I could sell my 2 year old and recoup some of the cost. I also had a couple of rust spots that new rims fixed. Included new stems but not metal like I wanted.

Oh no- now I’m confused again. Would it say something like that on the rims. I guess I could find the rim manufacturer and mod number and look up the specs.

Do you have plain old steel wheels or the pretty alloy wheels? I honestly think your ok either way but the alloys are definitely fine.

Looks like standard 6 lug steel trailer wheels can handle up to 80psi after doing some quick google searches

Should be imprinted on the rim, on the back, of course. LOL

But mine wern't, took them off, still couldn't find an imprint. Called my dealer, answer, we don't know.

Ended up about 10$ more total than getting from a local shop installed on my rims and paying tires disposal, taxes, labor, etc. Also, I didn't have to hook up and tow it 25 miles each way and sit in a waiting room hoping they know how to torque down trailer tires.

While I had them off inspected brakes, hubs, wiring for brakes. Only two tires for mine so it was worth it to me.

I’ve found the Dexstar 17-143 15-5 specs pdf.
It lists capacity & psi at 1820lb @50psi
Does that mean I can only put 50psi tires on there?

I’m going from 50 to 65 psi in the Goodyear endurance
. I’m trying to contact manufacturer to figure out what the hell this all means but they’re not answering

I googled your wheel and got 1820 lbs at 80 psi. Which is good for 65 pound tires as it has a generous allowance for over-pressure from hot tires or bad guages. Also, a little wiggle room if it was not perfect from the factory or rust.
