Stove Hood Fan
Just brought home our Jayco 25BH and discovered that the stove hood fan will not go on. Light works but fan does not. Rather not hall it into the dealer 3 1/2 hours away for such a small warranty issue. Any do-it-yourself suggestions?
Thank you!
Gregory

Pull the grease filter underneath and see if the fan will spin by hand. That thin filter is easily pushed upwards and can prevent the fan from turning.

Thanks M&A...fan spins fine so it must be something else.

With the cover off and hands clear, turn on the fan.
Still no... Check wiring back to where it combines with the feed to the light. ALL OK? Check switch, possible replace motor.
Fan runs fine with cover off... Reassemble watching for binding. Disassemble and re-re-re assemble until the cover does not interfere.

Do you have a multimeter? Is there power at the fan? Might be just a dead fan motor.

I guess that is one thing I need to try on mine yet.
I don't know that there is a sensor for this but I know on the outside of the camper where the vent blows out to is a door that can be opened and closed. Is it possible that there is a sensor that prevents the fan from turning on if the door is closed?

Did you try turning the fan on with the light on? or off?

A multimeter is your friend. With a meter, I would check the switch and the fan for power. My guess, you have a loose wire connection. If I recall correctly there is one power feed from the TT's 12v power feed (feed from above), so with the light working, my guess is the 12V jumper between the switches is bad, ether a loose connection or a bad wire crimp. With the meter you easily check. Also you may have a bad switch.
If you can verify it is a bad fan or switch, you should be able to call Jayco with your vin number and they will send you a replacement part, if you explain to them how far the dealer is located.
FYI, the main power Most logical spot is where the hood's power feed meets the camper 12v power. On my TT, the microwave must be removed, which is easy to do, it's only held in place with 4-6 screws in the face plate. Unplug and lift off the shelf. Again if yours is wired anything like mine there is a rats nest of wires back there.
Good luck,

I have never had one with a sensor. It just runs no matter if the flap is open or not when turned on.

Yeah like I said I don't know that there is one and I haven't tested mine but I was just throwing it out there as something to check. I agree that the multimeter is the best step to troubleshoot this. That said the door is something our old camper didn't have and if it wasn't pointed out to me at PDI I wouldn't have known about it and would have been trying to figure out why it wouldn't work (not actually venting). Not at home right now to try it out.
