Stuck tongue jack

I recently purchased a jayco swift. When I got home with it the tongue power jack was jammed. Apparently when the previous owner was helping me hook up he ran the jack up too far. I’ve disassembled the top of the gearbox and proven the motor and gearing works perfectly. The screw in the jack is jammed. I have tried to manually crank the jack , even with the gears disengaged. Afraid I’m going to break something. Should not be this hard. My next step is to disassemble the whole jack. I realize there are probably post on this. Just looking for any input from anyone who has been in this situation for any other advice that I haven’t mentioned.

any chance it's the 30 amp fuse?
Sometimes the fuse directly below the battery is blown
Other times my switch doesn't work on battery and I need to plug in the 7-pin to truck to get it to operate. I need to replace my switch.

depending on the jack if you over extend them they break... you may be able to fix it, but you may be better off to order up a new one.. they are reasonably priced....

I can get the motor to run on the jack. It has power. The jack is jammed internally. Just curious if anyone has any experience with this. I’m going to take the jack tube apart and see how bad it’s jammed. Sucks if I have to replace with the motor and gearbox functioning.

I would as you, open it up have a look, you maybe able to reset the gears together. Maybe there is a stop pin that fell out so the gear just spins above the foot.

Let us know what you find...

I haven't been inside of one. Some are serviceable, but most aren't... you know the motto ... cheap use break toss buy...

Some jacks have a replaceable shear pin that if broken would give the symptoms you state. (Motor Spins but no leg movement) What brand Jack is it?

I’m not sure of the brand. I will say whatever was installed by jayco. 2014 swift that’s not had much use. I’ve taken the ShCS out that engages the shaft to the gear. I would assume that’s the shear point. The jack screw itself is frozen. Hard to believe it jammed that easily. Again I’m not sure , the previous owner ran it up while I was getting the leveling jacks out of the way.

It's broke now, might as well take apart.
If you can fix, great! If not it was broke anyway.
I saved well over $700.00 when a slide motor quit, since it wasn't working anyway I took motor apart. Very corroded inside, cleaned and reassembled and worked like champ!
Motor, $700.00, labor at rv place another $400.00, so I saved about $1,100.00!!!!

Fixed!

Thanks for all the responses. I disassembled the jack. Good thing , the previous owner did not keep the jack covered and water was inside. Not the issue but would be later. The jack was jammed against the top pin. All greased and in good working order.

That’s great news, congratulations on being able to take it apart and fix it yourself.
That’s a great attribute for an RV owner and wish I had more expertise with that.

Excellent job! I agree with Kayak, you either learn to repair things in RVs, or you pay someone else to repair things in RVs. Happy Camping!
