Thousand Trails

I have read some very negative things about Thousand Trails. I think in the past people bought into life contacts and some are trying to sell their memberships and get out. After speaking with a Thousand Trails Rep, she told me they no longer require commitments in excess a one year. The annual fee is normally 545.00 per year. I live in the southeast zone and there seems to be some fairly nice places to camp. Lake Texoma, Lake Whitney, ect. Actually the Lake Texoma camp is so close to me, it would come in handy as a place to camp without spending a lot of gas money.
Right now the fee is discounted to 445.00 because school will soon be starting. Is the thousand Trails Membership a good deal?

Why do you want to pay for a membership? You can still camp at their locations and just pay for the days you stay there.

You make a good point. I can pay the $40 plus a night but say you stay 30 nights per year, thats $1200 and you do save by paying the dues.

Those places are a dump! Go and visit even before you go camping...Most of the sites are perm. sites. You make a reservation, go there and you "look" for an open site. Would NOT waste my money.....

I think that it has a lot to do with individual mind set. I camp because I can go anywhere that I want to go. Anytime that I want. Outfits like Thousand trails tend to keep you channeled on there locations. When you spend that kind of money, you start to think that you have to camp there to justify the membership. It may not be a conscious thought but its there non the less. I think its fine for folks that tend to go the same places year after year. That concept just doesn't fit my pistol!!!

Read the reviews of their members and visit at least 2 locations before you toss them your coin.
