Water leak and the "D" word....

I just pulled my 2007 Jay Feather 29X out of winter storage and found a pretty bad leak in the ceiling over the bath tub. I have no idea how long it has been leaking. I stored the T.T. back in October. Now I have delamination in the rear cap. I am taking it to our local dealer Saturday to get an estimate. Can anyone give me an idea what I am in for? cost, time, etc.

I don't think there is any way to repair a delaminated cap, they will probably price it out as installing a replacement cap. Make sure you find and fix the leak. Not to overreact but this is a 10 year old TT and if the caulk has never been redone or maintained over the years, all the penetrations and seams on the top should be cleaned and recaulked. I would use Eternabond tape on the seams.

Cost for replacing the cap?? I would check on line or at least 2 other repair dealers. This is something that they could add a lot of extra labor etc and you end up with a bill a lot higher than just the cost of the cap.

You should also weigh the costs of the repair against the age of the camper. If they can fix the problem so that it doesn't happen to make the problem worse, then ask whether the cost of replacing the delaminated area is worth it. Of course that depends on how bad it is.

We have a 2004 Jay Feather 23B and it's had a couple of water issues. I have fixed the underlying issue but as far as going after the damage (mainly a soft spot on the floor, but also a minor bit of delamination), I can't justify the costs on a nearly 15 year old rig.

In your case you might want to install a new plank floor over the existing linoleum. I got mine at H Dep. It was easy to install and at least 1/4' thick. My guess is that the new floor will completely resolve the soft floor feeling and you will end up with a nice new floor. Total cost s/b less than $350 and a weekend of your time.
