Has to do with design and looks I assume. Maybe if they made a solid square front design it might take away from the selling features. I'm sure by Jayco all the bodies of a design and marketing team make together decisions.

We have a 2015 27DSRL and I would assume that it's part of the aero dynamics. Wind coming off your tow vehicle hits a flat surface after causes drag. The slope helps relieve that drag. Make sure to apply a good Wax to it before you start. Helps also eliminate drag. As with most all new trailers remember it isn't a home there are going to be small things you'll have to adjust/fix after your shake down run. I had a problem with the slide strip and had to have Jayco engineers get involved but the remedy seems to have worked.
