1989 J-Series 1206 Brake Help

Hello!

This is my first post. I'm so grateful for this forum, we've learned a ton about our old pop up!

So we have super old surge brakes on our trailer. It looks like the actuator is part of the tongue, so therefore I don't think we can remove it and replace with a new system.

Has anyone had luck replacing the master cylinder on this unit? We don't necessarily want to switch to electric brakes. But, if you've done this on the same model, can you let me know how that went for you?

Thanks so much!

Is the actuator bolted onto the trailer’s A-frame? If so, it will likely slide out when unbolted and you can replace. Demco makes actuators with couplers. ETrailer carries a variety, one should fit. https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Bra...SAAEgJYyfD_BwE

ETrailer is also a great resource for this type of thing.

If you are going to do it make sure you purge all the old fluid in the lines, check the lines for rust or corrosion and that the brake units themselves actually work before you start the work.
