2012 Jayco 1007 Brakes

Hi all, we just bought our first popup, the 1007! My first task will be to add brakes, as it's missing them all together. We will be towing with a Honda Odyssey, so brakes will be a must. The plates to add them are already installed so that's a big plus!

My question is this: with the 12" tires that are standard, I can only get 7" brakes. Would it be possible to upgrade to 13" tires so I could put on 10" brakes? Plus the 10" are self-adjusting (seems like a plus!). Of course I'd be replacing the hubs at the same time too. The tires are only a year old, so they don't need replaced, but I think it would make a big difference in braking power so it might be worth it if it's possible to do.

Maybe it's entirely unnecessary. We are in PA and planning a pretty long western journey next summer, so mountains are definitely in our forecast. Thanks for your help!

We had a 2010 1007. We pulled it with a 2012 VW Routan SE minivan. It never crossed my mind to add brakes. We bought it in 2016 and used it during the summer of 2017 for almost 3,000 miles. It was never an issue not having brakes on it. I wouldn't bother.

The biggest problem you'll have with increasing the wheel size on the 1007 is the wheel clearance. There isn't much space at the top of suspension travel between the existing wheel and the plastic tub, I expect that a larger combo would probably rub unless you also lifted the axle slightly as well to make up for the difference.

Never had an issue with our 1007 with stock brakes and Chev Traverse often towing through the ADK's. Still some steep grades, but not as long as the ones out west.
