Ease or Lack thereof

Since I'm parting with the Beast I need a new trailer. I love the popups, the idea, the fresh air, the open feeling you get from them. But, since I had so much trouble opening and shutting the slides in mine I'm hesitant to get another one.

I would like to hear from owners of newer models how they open the slides on their popups. Whether or not they experience difficulty, if the smaller of their companions can handle it alone (like a wife not a child).

Please, I would really like to know this since my proposed leave date is in 3 days, which I'm not going to make but do not want to be here in July without a doubt. This means I need to decide what type of trailer I'll be getting and attempt to do so quickly.

Thank you again for your help, since I know I'll be getting some.

And yes I will test any I'm interested in before buying it, and no I didn't with the Beast, long story but cold rain, drizzle and freezing rain stopped this attempt for over 2 weeks.

FWIW: my 95 Jayco 1207 slides are almost effortless, albeit heavy but they move freely. I lubricate them with Silicone spray, odorless and makes a significant difference in how easily they move.

Thank you. I will still try a Silicone spray. I was told not to because it would attract grit but if it works for you maybe it will for me. I love the Beast and am sad to have to let him go.

There is a dry ptf lubricant that does not attract dirt.

You can also use garage door lubricant, it’s dry like the silicon spray.

Teflon spray doesn't attract dirt. Eating (fresh) spinach makes us strong (at least it did popey) still eat it at least once a week. Still throw my 90 lbs. generator on my tailgate with ease.

I have 2017 12SS and my wife and 9 year old girls are able to pull both bed slides out and the kitchen. Sometimes the beds can be a little stubborn to get out but if you get a good hold of the tent fabric and sometimes a little wiggle back and worth does the trick. good luck.

Thank you everyone but now "the Beast" has thrown me a new problem, I'm going to post a new thread about it if you'd like to check it out, it's going to present new challenges and discouragement for me. LOL

Finish Line Teflon lube. Used it on my mountain bike chain and it works flawlessly.

I will have to look for your other post.

Dry lube is your friend. Some areas I use Silicone Spray, and other areas Tri-Flow, which is an expensive dry teflon spray. I have had good luck with both, but Tri-Flow is my favorite.

If you are thinking about a new camper, consider a hybrid. We were looking at PUs but ended up with the large 23B. The 17Z is a small unit, IMO it is great for 1-2 people. One of the major things I like is the bunk end windows, and how open they are, and how much air you can get through the HTT.
