Interesting opinions for tires

I recently requested what psi I should put into my Carlyle USA Trailer tires 5-30-12. The tire states 80 lbs. To recap, I own a 92 Jayco 1006 pop up camper. Dry weight is approximately 1400 lbs. As a test, I called the manufacturer, Carlyle themselves. I called twice. The first technician couldn't help me because she said I couldn't provide her with a model number. I gave her every number stamped on the tire, but to no avail. She couldn't answer me. I guess saying Carlyle USA Trailer 5-30-12 wasn't good enough. I called again speaking to a second "technician." I explained what camper I owned, its weight and the make of the tire....She said 80 lbs. Thirdly, I emailed the manufacturer. After explaining my camper and its weight... And the make of their tires....The response was 55 lbs psi. Go figure. I'm as confused today as much as when I inquired about proper tire pressure in my first posting.

Do you have a load rating (C, D or E) on the tire?

I stick with 80, that's what's on the camper tire label. "8.30-12 LR C 80psi"

Here's an answer (or opinion) from the etrailer.com site.

Another tire question, what do you think about bias ply vs radial ply?

I have C and keep them at 65psi. I also have enjoyed the solid tracking and cushy ride the trailer seems to have with the radial plys that are on my 2010 M-1007 right now. They're made in China and look great. I'll find a better quality tire when the time comes to replace them but stick with the radial tires. I've put about 700 miles on the camper since it's purchase last December. I am about to add another near 900 miles next week on a 9-day, 3-site trek in Michigan starting next week.

Etrailer.com has a lot to offer in both products and info. Here's two more links to consider reading.

We had a '93 1008. The manual said to fill the tires to the max PSI listed on the sidewalls.

those tires have a 1050# rating when inflated to the max, so with your trailer dry weight of about 1400#, maybe 1800 wet, you should stick to the max pressure or close (75psi)
