It's relaxing to me, and I like to relax when I'm camping. That's why I like hunting so much; it offers the maximum amount of peaceful nature observation.

Does napping count as a camping hobby?
This pretty much says it for me as well. This is down time and I try and take advantage of it as much as possible. Never go without a good book though - I like to sit under the awning and read while enjoying the campground atmosphere. The DW loves to craft and usually has a beading project that she works on while we are traveling. We do like to find campgrounds with hiking trails so we have a chance to see some of the surrounding area.

interesting to see the RC cars here, i just picked up 3 tattered rc's from a friend and am in the process of fixing 2 of them up for the kids and i to race around. A traxxas rustler, ECX something or other and a nitro 1/8 scale that i sold off to cover the parts i need. The kids so far have had fun crashing the rustler into the fence repeatedly.

A little photography, reading and sitting in a chair watching the world go by.

We like to discover the areas where we camp, whether it's nature or Americana. We spent 2 days on our trip in Iowa searching out the barn quilts in Grundy and Hardin counties while camped at Pine Lake in Eldora. Great little spot, with friendly people and a beautiful campground. I got to indulge my photography hobby and explore the heartland at the same time.

Is that naturally occurring bio-luminescence? Or do you have lights under your boat?

I've always wanted to see that in real life. I'm sure even the best pictures don't do it any justice at all.

Me. Radio control airplanes, building and flying. Black powder shooting. Fishing. Sometimes golf.

Wife. Needlepoint, Knitting/Crochet, Weaving. She sometimes goes fishing we me too.

Together we go see places and hike.

We sold the radio control kit business when we decided to go full time.

We travel for mountain biking events and road gran fondos. Reading, napping and checking out local breweries are on the hobby list too.

Fishing(mostly Muskie), checking out local places(restaurants, churches, places of interest), tinkering with camper and boat, being a model train buff its a great time to assemble building kits for the train layout, and of course I consider camping a hobby in itself.

Likewise.
My first camera was a Zenit - Russian in origin, part of the big sell-off at the end of the Cold War
Then I saved up my pennies and got a Canon A-1, which I used so much that I wore off the finish under the film advance lever (some of you may need to ask your parents about "film" :-) .. and I've stayed with Canon ever since
I usually take two bodies and an assortment of lenses with me on our outings.
I even got a custom backpack to schlep it all in, which is a lot easier if we're off exploring,

A question for the folks whose pastimes include RC planes and cars... do you ever run into any issue with campground regulations, over these? I know a lot of places won't let you fly drones any more, for example...
Or do you just go a long way from anyone who might care?

I am a car guy / gear head and love to build models. Mostly classic cars but I've done trucks, planes even busses. Very relaxing to me and a very easy hobby to take on the road...

Yes, actually. My son-in-law was told it is illegal to fly his small (no camera) drone in New York State parks. Apparently, the law reads any flying object that creates lift can not be flown...paper airplanes and kites included! I doubt they would ticket for those but the drones and helicopters for sure.

Side note, we run our 1/10th scale RC trucks and have never had an issue. We just pull off the road when a park employee, Ranger or Police come by. Many times they will chat with us.

There are a ton of new rules about RC airplanes due to all the "inconsiderate jerks" with drones. I used to be able to fly at a lot of places, like empty soccer fields or parks. No more. 99% of the time I am limited to establish radio control fields.

And that's another problem as more and more of them are going away due to encroaching neighborhoods.

I have some small planes I used to fly in largish parking lots, including some areas of RV parks. Again, thanks to the drone folks, I am usually told to go away.

Yes, drones have a specific role, photography. They are a wonderful tool and are a boon to many who use video as part of their business. But, many who have them seem to view it as a challenge to harrass everyone they can. And if they ca get a video to go viral they don't care who they impose on.

Sorry for the rant.
